Well, they simply never got experience for 3+ seasons (would never play any game - at the time you needed to get plays to get experience), meaning they always stayed at a low level. They also did not boost. In that way, they were very low in level for a long time, meaning they did not waste any ALGs. Meanwhile, they trained attributes to very high levels BEFORE getting the ALGs applied. Considering that ALGs are the highest before level 22, this means they got 3 or more seasons of training advantage over other players of the same level, as well as sometimes getting the ALGs to apply to a bigger gain.
Clear enough ?

^in order to dupe all the users building normally for the top levels of the game.
The key to the strategy was that leagues were level capped, not age capped. Thus, you could have a 120 day old player that was still level 13, but had ~150 days of training progress completed. They would maintain that build advantage until they hit plateau (which was only a promise for the first 10 seasons...no one knew for sure if plateau would even happen), so for 7 seasons they would have a fairly significant build advantage compared to normally built dots at the same level.

...and dots would have to walk 5 miles in the snow just to get to the equipment store.
