you know that thing where a wide open receiver will catch the ball then stand there for several ticks without doing anything while everyone on the field converges on him?

I assume this represents the receiver bobbling the catch or trying to secure the ball in some way.

my question is whether avoiding this is purely a product of catching skill (as the text description would imply) or other things play in to whether there is a delay or how long the delay lasts. One would suspect Carrying would help, although the text description would seem to say it only helps if someone is hitting him. Vision ("ball anticipation") could also be part of this roll, as could agility and even confidence. So what's the best way to get guys to focus and make the catch smoothly?

Does Catch in Stride SA significantly help alleviate this or is it better to put the SPs directly into catching?

It's simply the catching attribute and pass quality. This all comes with time. (if you build properly)

And sure, Catch in Stride will help some, but I've seen a gazillion examples of WR's without CiS that have been perfectly fine and the gains from other bonus SAs such as CF far outweigh the loss of not having CiS. Personally feel that the CiS SA isn't all that great compared to other options available.
