Problem:

If any of you set up your offense to run right or run left
and to get the blockers to the side you need, you know
what a pain it is to make the passing packages target the
needed receivers and to use the proper custom checkdown orders.

Solution:

Packages page
Positions/Depth Chart
"Do not Target" toggle box by each Position
Then QB Checkdown Order Override (Set at Play Default or set up the way you want.)

This way the "not" targets effect the default if you want them to
and the custom checkdown order as well (if you forget to leave your blockers off the WR checkdown list.)

not sure I'm understanding this, but can't you already do that?

as I learned only recently actually, you can set the custom checkdowns to go to anyone you want, including giving multiple looks to one guy or even--if you wanted-- to target one guy alone (set it at WR2, WR2, WR2, WR2, WR2 for example)

so if you want to "not target" the TE you can go WR1, WR2, WR1, WR2, HB or whatever.

you could also accomplish this for HB/FB/TE (but not WRs) by changing the settings in the package or AI to have them block instead of running a route, in which case they naturally wouldn't be targeted

or are you just looking for a quick way to to the above without using the custom checkdowns at all? and if so, why would you want to--by skipping over the "do not target" guy(s) without a substitute, you're just going to reach the point where the QB throws the ball away or tucks and runs that much sooner. the latter (tuck and run) could actually be an good thing (or possibly an exploit) for scrambling QBs if this were implemented.

This... kind of.
In some of my offensive schemes I stack the blockers on the left or the right.
You don't want to pass to a blocker... so "yes" you can set up the custom checkdown
to ignore certain guys, but then you need to do that for each package.

Example of what I'm talking about:
If say I have the Blocking WR's/TE's at the WR 1 slot then I want to target everyone else (HB/FB/TE/WR2/WR3/WR4/WR5)
I can go ahead and make a checkdown order, but sometimes I think it would be easier to say "do not target WR1"
and let the AI do the rest..... (at least until I can see which guys I would like to target more specifically).
Having a "do not target" toggle for each receiver would accomplish this.

Does that make sense?

you can still only have 5 max routes active, so i would imagine reducing that to 4 by ignoring one would mean more throw-aways--but if its worth it to you then.... Originally posted by sehorn31
