Section A: Suspension Points
To lower inconsistencies among suspensions and forum or perma-bans we have implemented a new suspension point system. The system is designed to give users the chance to prove they have learned from their mistakes. If they don’t, they will be removed from the forums for good. If they continue causing problems under a forum ban, they will be removed from the game.

There are three tiers of the suspension point system and all users will start out at tier one and move down as they lose points. If they break the points of the final tier they will be given no further chances and they will be removed from the forums completely. (no appeals or “4th” chances)

Major rule violations are -100 pointsMid-level rule violations are -50 pointsMinor rule violations are -25 points

Tier A users have 300 suspension pointsThis is the starting tier for all users. When a user hits 0 suspension points or less they will receive an automatic 30-day forum suspension. Once they 30 days are up the user will be automatically released and then they will move onto the Tier B points, listed below.A user can only lose suspension points when they violate the rules, listed in the sections below.
Tier B users have 200 suspension pointsWhen a user hits 0 suspension points or less they will receive an automatic 30-day forum suspension. Once they 30 days are up the user will be fanatically released and then they will move onto the Tier C points, listed below.A user can only lose suspension points when they violate the rules, listed in the sections below.
Tier C users have 100 suspension pointsWhen a user hits 0 suspension points or less they will receive an automatic true forum ban and will not be released.A user can only lose suspension points when they violate the rules, listed in the sections below.

Section A: Notes
Avoiding suspensions will be rewarded:

The user can view your suspension points and current tier on their accounts settings page.Only an admin can view and edit a users suspension points or tier.Going 30 without receiving a suspension will lower ones suspension point tier.Tier A users who go 30 days without receiving a suspension will have their points reset to 300.A user can be removed from the game or the forums by an administrator, even when the user has points left on their account. This will be reserved for only the most extreme of cases. A few examples of these cases:

Multi-AccountsContinually making multi-accounts to get around suspensionsCursing out administrators and/or supportSending Pornography or offensive material via private messages or to supportHacking(ed) Accounts(s)Performing or attempting to perform any of the following: Hacking, password-guessing, password stealing, scamming, or any way of attempting to take control of or compromise another user's account.Threatening anyone with personal informationAttempting to sell an account(s)Pushing other users into violating the forum rulesIf it is determined that a user is using the rules for their own personal gain, we will move straight to a ban.If a user receives an extension to their current suspension, they will continue to lose suspension points. A suspended user still has something to lose.

Example: A user gets a 3 day suspension (-50 points) for violating a rule. While under this suspension they break two more rules and receive two 2 day extensions (-25 points each). 50+25*2 = 100 suspension points lost.

Previously Banned Users:
The new rules and suspension point system will give all non-banned users a fresh start but this will not be a retroactive change for already perma-banned users. The users who have been removed from the game or forums have had plenty of chances and would have been banned many times over with this new system.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section B: Major Forum Rules
Each of the following offences are considered major violations and we will punish these users with a maximum point deduction and the suspension time frames range from 7 days to 5 days. As outlined above, each of these violations will result in a loss of 100 suspension points. Breaking the major rules can lead to you being removed from the game, please avoid breaking any of these rules.

Section B: Notes

Violations of the major rules will always be dealt with a suspension. No warnings will be given because we feel the above rules are easily avoidable. All it takes is some very basic decency and avoid going out of your way to cause us or another user trouble. Play nice or find yourself in a timeout. These rules remain true on all forums, including team and private forums. We may not take action in cases where the reporting user is provoking the attacks and in most cases both sides will receive suspensions. We will not choose sides and/or suffer because one cannot keep their mouse pointer off of the post button.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section C: Mid-Level Forum Rules
Each of the following offences are considered mid-level violations. These suspension time frames are 3 days to 4 days. As outlined above, each of these violations will also result in a loss of 50 suspension points. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section E: General Forum Rules
The Free for All (FFA), Trash Talkin' (TT) and General Discussion (GD) forums are our open discussion areas of the forums. If you are prone to taking offense and cannot keep cool, we would suggest that you avoid this section of the forum because we are far more lenient with the allowed behavior. It is open discussion and general nonsense, so you will see posts you dislike and in many cases, it's will not be our responsibility to punish the offending poster(s)

WARNING: We have implemented the user controlled moderating tools (Karma Posting) to these three sections of the forum. We will no longer be involved in casual moderating decisions, this will be up to the users involved in the thread, but we will still get involved if the following rules are broken.

DO NOT POST:

Pornography*RacismNo file sharing of copy-written material*No Multi-Accounting*No planned attacks*Includes provoking fights with other sections of the forumsPosting Private Messages*Posting tactics or builds without permission*

Section E: Notes

The rules on thread locks, deletes and moves may differ from time to time. Most of the time things are "smooth" but when things get "rough" it becomes very difficult for the moderators and administrators to do their jobs. We may need to tighten the rules down from time to time to prevent a situation from getting out of control.

*See sections above for specifics on the rules.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section F: Karma System
We are currently testing out a rough version of a user controlled moderated forum tool(s). We have plans to increase the effectiveness of this tool, but as of right now, the tool will allow users to vote a specific thread or post up or down. Each vote will affect the "karma" of the post and/or thread. This is a common tool used on pubic forums and comment sections of web sites, so many of you will be familiar with the functions of these tools.

Posts, will have a set threshold. A vote down will move the post closer to this threshold and a vote up will move it further away. If the post receives enough votes down to reach or pass this set threshold, it will automatically collapse the post from public viewing. The thread is still accessible to anyone, if they choose to expand the collapsed post. It also still can receive votes up or down, at this point. So, if this "hidden" post receives enough votes up, it will no longer be hidden.

How the Karma will affect a thread is a bit more unique. If the original post of the thread receives a set number of votes down, It will be locked and If it receives enough votes up, it will be unlocked.

Section F: Notes

Abuse of these tools may lead to a suspension. This includes ganging up on a user to hide their threads or posts. Moderators and Admins will have the ability to fix a threads or posts karma at any time, so don't think pursuing this would be permanent.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section G: Other Unique Forum Rules
Some other sub-forums may have it's own set of rules. You will need to read the stickies at the top of the forum to verify that you are aware of any rule that may be specifically designed for that forum. The major ones are provided below. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact any moderator.

Bugs ForumsSuggestion ForumGeneral Discussion ForumsTeams Looking for Players ForumsPlayers Looking for Teams Forums

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section H: Private Forum Rules
Private forum rules are a little more relaxed, but please note that Administrators may view your private forum at any time in order to protect the interests of the site and its users. You may talk about whatever you like in your private forum. Except for the following:

General Rules regarding pornography, hate speech, racism, planning spam/hacking attempts, also apply in the private forum rules.*Sharing PM's, builds, and/or tactics of other users without their permission is not allowed.*File sharing of copy-written material is not allowed at all.*Violation of private forum rules may result in confiscation of the forum without refund, and/or suspensions/bans of the users involved. The suspension time frames will be decided by administrators only.

*See sections above for specifics on the rules.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section I: Private Message Rules
Do not use the private message system to send insults, racism, or personal attacks to other users, moderators or administrators.*Do not use private messages to send links to file-sharing of copy-written material.*Do not use private messages to spam a user.*If someone is abusing the private message rules, please contact a moderator or support. If you provide a link to the private message(s), an administrator can review it. Too many users have attempted to punish and innocent user by faking a private message, so we will not enforce rules when only a screenshot or text is provided, please provide a physical link.

Example:http://www.goallineblitz.com/game/message.pl?id=########*See sections above for specifics on the rules.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section J: Avatar Rules
We cater to a wide spectrum of ages and anything considered inappropriate for a child, will not be allowed and will be removed. Please be respectful to the fact that we do have younger members and families playing Goal Line Blitz. If you want to discuss an avatar that you are unsure of, please feel free to contact support or a moderator.

j1.Breaking Avatar Rules: 1 warning - 3 day suspension The avatar will be removed by an administrator but a moderator may enforce the rule before hand. Each time a rule breaking avatar is uploaded, 2 more days will be added to the current suspension. If this happens 3 or more times, the user will receive a 30-day suspension.Do not use pornography or adult imagery of any sort in your avatar. This includes "R-Rated nudity."See the pornography adult imagery rule for more details, located in section b.Do not use curse words of any kind in your avatar.See ListDo not use racism in your avatar.Imagery or Text.Do not use flashing avatars, which include color flashing as well as rapid changing imagery. These avatars can cause seizures in some people and it's also extremely annoying.Do not slander any member of GLB in your avatar. This includes users, moderators and administrators.Even if it doesn't contain a curse word.Do not use gore in your avatar. Not all of us are numb to such material.Do not use images depicting excessive violence, even if that violence is not necessarily gory.Example: A gun in someone's mouth.Do not use a female (or transsexual/transvestite) who is naked, regardless of what is exposed or not.Example: A female holding her bare breasts with hands.Do not use images depicting open acts of affection past hand-holding.Example:Two people making out. Boy:Boy, Boy:Girl or Girl:Girl. This would also include veiled sexual acts such as fellating a banana.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section K: Forum Signature Rules
k1.Breaking the Forum Signature Rules: 1 warning - 3 day suspension The signature will be removed by an administrator but a moderator may enforce the rule before hand. Each time a rule breaking forum signature is reapplied, 2 more days will be added to the current suspension. If this happens 3 or more times, the user will receive a 30-day suspension.Do not use curse words of any kind.See ListDo not use any images or links to images in your signature that are not allowed in your avatar.See Avatar RulesDo not use racist, sexist or homophobic material. This includes masking and slang.Do not use it to attack another user.Includes joking with a friend(s).We are not here to keep track of whoyou are friends with and we will not encourage this behavior in any form.Posting any of the above material at the end of each of your posts will be considered your forum signature. It's not a loop-hole and you will be punished.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section L: Suspensions & Warnings
If you log into Goal Line Blitz and receive a message that you have been suspended, you can either serve out your suspension or click on the suspension appeals link provided in the suspension message. This link will bring you to a form that can only be filled out by suspended users. It will ask you to explain the suspension and why you may feel the suspension was unjust. Once sent it will be reviewed by the moderator who suspended you, lead moderators and/or administrators and if handled properly, they may release you from the suspension.

l1.Breaking Suspensions & Warning Rules: 0 warning - 3 day exetension If the user attacks the appeal suspension box with inappropriate language, you will receive a 3 day extension to the current suspension. If the user continues, they will receive a 30-day suspension. If the user attacks a moderator because they feel they where the ones who suspended them, they will receive a 3 day extension to their current suspension. If the user continues, they will receive a 30-day suspension.Acting calm is the best way to work with the moderators and administrators. If you come to an agreement with the moderator or administrators, they may release the user from the suspension early or immediately. If released immediately, the suspension was considered a mistake and the user will be "refunded" the suspension points. If released early, the user will not be "refunded" your suspension points. The user is still considered guilty of breaking the rule.If the user immediately breaks the exact same rule after being released, they will receive a 30-day suspension.A warning is a simple note sent from an moderator or an administrator, stating the user has violated one of our rules. The warnings are to inform the user of a rule they may have overlooked or forgotten, but we will only remind the user once. It will be noted in their account that they have been warned about this and if it continues, they will receive a suspension.

The user will not receive a warning if they violated a major rule or any of the rules listed in the sections above, that are listed as "no warning".

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section M: Curse Words
The following list of curse words are the "basic" swear words that we will not allow in a thread title or we may consider excessive if used multiple times within a thread, by a single user. There are many variations of these words that are still considered violations of the curse word rule - we simply cannot post the entire list

BitchDickPussyFuckShit

Section M: Notes
All compounds and general variations of these words are not allowed. All variations of the slang word for the male or female genitalia are not allowed.Example: Prick, Cunt, Cock, etcUsing any of these words in a different language is not a loop hole.Toying around with these words and trying to use alternatives is not a loop hole.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section N: The Report Function
Please do not use the report button to report things frivolously. Only posts that are truly offensive and needing quick action should be reported. The reporting system should NOT be used to target specific users or on posts that are not problematic. Repeated abuse of the report system in this manner will result in a suspension or possible permanent ban.

We would like to express that this feature is extremely useful for allowing moderators to respond quickly to inappropriate posts. If it is not reported we may not see the offending post for quite some time. All reports are handled by a moderator or administrator. Please remember that there is no way for you to visualize when and if we take action from the submitted report. We will only notify the user who is punished and we will not make any public statement on the punishments. This is mandated by our privacy policy.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section O: Multi-Accounts
A "multi-account" is when a user is in control of two or more accounts. This is not allowed and If you are caught with multiple accounts, all but one will be banned. If a user has a history of creating multi-accounts, all of his accounts will be banned. We do allow newer users to have their accounts merged into one and they must contact support for more information, but we no longer do general account mergers.

If you are multi-accounting and are concerned about the future of your account(s) on GLB, contact support, we will work with you. If we find the accounts on our own, we will decide which to ban and which to leave open without your input.

There have also been cases in the past of generally "upstanding" users creating multi-accounts to either test builds or to demonstrate an exploit to the community. If you wish to test a build for your own entertainment you must do it on your own account. If you are concerned about a bug or exploit, please contact a moderator. They can pass this information along to testers who have tools to quickly address the potential bug or exploit.

We ban thousands of multi-accounts a season and it consumes a lot of our time. We do not find the joke multi-accounts to be entertaining, and in some situations they are more aggravating than the real thing. We are the ones who have clean up the mess left behind by these users and your fun costs GLB time and money. We will suspended a user who is creating multiple accounts to joke around with the forum community, to get around a suspension or to hide their identity. If the user has a history of doing this, they will be banned from the game.

Section O: Notes
If you have family members playing from the same computer, contact support, they will give you some options. If a user is suspended for violating a rule on the forums and the a "friend or family members" account logs on to post (especially when they do not have a history of posting), it may be viewed as multi-accounting and you will increase in suspension and possibly get the friend or family members account banned for your actions. Claiming someone is your family member or friend will not protect an account. If we have evidence that suggests that the account(s) are in fact a multi-account, we will act.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section P: What is a Moderator?
A moderator is a volunteer chosen by the Admins from among the user base who gives out his/her time to keep the boards clean and fun for everyone. They try hard to be fair and make rulings within the given forum rules. Moderators have the final say on forum rulings, as the Admins cannot handle the workload of maintaining the forum flow while also handling support requests and general game development. We cannot be everywhere at all times, so if we miss something, feel free to private message us about an issue.

Also they are not customer service employees such as you might encounter in a corporation or business. They are regular Joe's who have been around for a while and who have contributed to the game in various ways through guides, answering questions and helping new users, helping organize the site, and through other behind-the-scenes contributions.

What is an Area Moderator?
Area Moderators are very similar to full moderators but they cannot suspended users or access the suspension appeals. Their job is to make sure their assigned area is ran smoothly and to assist users who may questions regarding their area of the forums. They cannot suspended users but if they feel a user has broken a rule, they can call in a full moderator or administrator to hand out a possible suspension.

What is a Lead Moderator?
Again, the lead moderators are very similar to full moderators but they are limited to a very small number and reserved for only the active veterans. Their job is to make unbiased decision on important topics like (un)sticking threads, who is violating "gray area rules", who is violating undefined rules, etc. All suspension related decisions will be ran through two lead moderators and one administrator before action is taken. Lead moderators are the only mods who can overturn suspensions and they will punish moderators who are acting inappropriately or abusing their powers

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section Q: What can or can't a Moderator do?
There is a common misunderstanding that a moderator is an administrator but this is incorrect. A moderator has just enough access to tools and information to allow them to handle their jobs efficiently. All private information is hidden to a moderator nor can they view any information about a players team or players.

Area Moderators have access to do the following:

Lock, delete, sticky, merge and move forum threads.>
Change thread titles.Kick and Suspend users from the chat room.Limited to the assigned chat moderators.

Moderators have access to do the following:

Suspend a user from the forums or chat room.Lock, delete, sticky, merge and move forum threads.Edit any posts that needs to be removed or censored.Change thread titles.View and respond to suspension appeals.Only users that they they suspended.Post in and view the area moderator forums.Post in and view the moderator forums.

Lead Moderators have access to do the following:

Suspend a user from the forums or chat room.Release a user from a suspension.Lock, delete, sticky, merge and move forum threads.Edit any post that needs to be removed or censored.Change thread titles.View and respond to suspension appeals.Complete suspension appeals.View suspension notes and points.Punish and request the removal of moderators.Post in and view the moderator forums.Post in and view the lead moderator forums.

All Moderators CANNOT do any of the following:

View private account information. (Email address, IP address, Pay-Pal accounts, etc)Permanently ban a user from the game.Delete posts completely from a thread. (they can edit)Access the support box.Access anyone's team or player information, other than the normal public information.Neither a moderator nor an administrator has access to your account password. It is encrypted and the only way anyone else will find out what it is is if you tell them.View and edit a users suspension points or suspension tier.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Section R: Contacting support or the moderators
Each of these contacts (Support and Moderators) specialize in different areas and some questions/concerns should only be handled by the correct party. If you send in a forum related issue to support it may take longer for you to get the situation handled properly because they are busy with game related issues. Also, If you contact a moderator about game related problems, they may just send you to support or they may need to talk to an administrators. Questions being sent to the wrong party only slow things down. So, if you are in need of a response please contact the appropriate party by using the following information:

Contact Support:Team related issuesGame related issuesExtreme user harassmentExamples: threats, personal information, blackmailing, etc.ComplaintsName ChangesOff Season Requests

Contact Moderator:Forum related issuesOffensive avatar issuesOffensive signature issuesMinor user harassmentExamples: trolling, offensive language, excessive cursing, etc.Questions regarding forum rules

So you lose points if your bad? I got a warning the other day I was wondering how it works. Cursing is interesting so you can say certain words go in for the Appeals process and be able to win since it says nothing about Asshole. All variations of the slang word for the male or female genitalia are not allowed. That wouldnt be considered that. Anyways I am sure this will be locked. Thanks Dub J for a little insight into the Appeals process

Here's how the appeals process typically works:

There is a 95% chance your appeal won't be won.

4.9% chance your appeal will be won but it won't be overturned until the day after your ban ends.

0.1% chance your appeal is heard and granted in a timely manner.

As it says in the Forum Rules right before the part you quoted: "These rules are general guidelines. We cannot possibly list every offensive word, phrase or action. Please note that just because something is not listed here does not make it ineligible for moderation. Moderation of any content is at the discretion of the moderators and administrators of this site."

As far as your question about Appeals... it's not hard to get an Appeal accepted. If there was a misunderstanding that led to a suspension/warning, the Appeal form is there for you to explain it. Calm, reasonable Appeals get better results. The Appeals I see denied most often are either filled with cursing and attacks on the Moderator staff, OR crying about "But he got away with posting this!"

One big problem here is that the rules as you say are open for interpretation by the Mods, meaning their perception. Depending on where you are in the world, some communications which are considered non offensive in one area, are very offensive in others. There are even some things that are done in the States as part of every day communication even in professional circles which are grounds for a butt kicking in some countries. Leaving a rule to perceptions is very bad, just way too many differing views throughout the world.

That's how they can get by with banning people when it suits them. For example, any time I call out Bort and DD for their lack of effort in promoting this game or improving it for new users I get a lengthy generic ban.

I anticipate another 14-30 coming on since I vented my frustration with the devs today in the GLB forum.

Different people are bound to interpret situations in different ways - at some point, that's unavoidable. But our current Moderator team is more or less on the same page as far as what is/isn't allowed. And from what I've seen they're pretty good about policing each other to clarify when something doesn't seem right.
