I am trying to prove to someone that First Step does not activate on run plays for the HB or FB who gets the handoff but I cannot find the Bort or Catch22 quote about this. I have tried looking in Q&A and Wiki but can't find it.

How do you find info like this without a search feature?

They should probably know it only fires on pass plays.

Edit: I know this and you have seen some of my GLB intelligence...

Wait.... First step does in fact work on run plays....just not for the dot getting the handoff as that is pre-scripted. It still fires for O-line, TE and WR's

First step activates in ANY play and ANY situation for ANY player where he has less than 2 acceleration units per tick, if I'm not mistaken. The only exception is scripted plays like a QB's handoff or a pre-reception screen. Everything else it can activate, but the player needs to be in a near dead stop for it to be able to go off.

Correct...I meant for the HB receiving the ball for a run play.

It doesn't fire for the player getting the ball as he is already moving a few ticks when he receives the ball but it does fire for everyone else.

I read it doesn't fire for HBs on run plays. That is correct.

First step fires for a screen play as well. Just not for handoff's to the ball carrier

Just ask me. I'm the one who initially said and then proved that it couldn't work for handoffs.

Yep...I learned it from you but how do you find those posts? I needed a quote to prove it and couldn't find anywhere They truly need a better search feature for information.

February 9, 2011 Question Does First Step actually provide a boost to acceleration for a HB on a rushing play after the scripted handoff? Does the scripted hand-off prevent First Step from having any benefit at all for a HB on a rushing play?
Answer First Step is more useful for re-starting motion after a hard cut, where the player slows way down or stops, which can actually be pretty often for some players and plays. Since the player is already moving at the handoff, First Step usually doesn't have a chance to go off unless a cut is required. Surge is probably more what you're looking for.

Do note that First Step can fire when dots are moving through heavy traffic (and slow down enough for it to activate). A lot of times you'll see guys "fire" and really accelerate out of traffic.

It creates an interesting dynamic with Surge.
