I'm gonna bet this is a NGTH. Mostly because I've never player an electronic football game that didn't stop scoring at 255. It's gotta be some kind of mathematical thing that causes major issues with coding/gameplay/bugs. Otherwise, EA Sports SURELY would've mastered it by now.

In computing

255 is a special number in some tasks having to do with computing. This is the maximum value representable by an eight-digit binary number, and therefore the maximum representable by an unsigned 8-bit byte (the most common size of byte, also called an octet), the smallest common variable size used in high level programming languages (bit being smaller, but rarely used for value storage). The range is 0 to 255, which is 256 total values.

at one time we had a 255 limit on Bonus Tokens and Bort addressed that - no reason to not address this

Why? Is 255 not a dumb enough score for a football game as it is?

I believe its a computer thing. One byte of data can handle 255. 256 requires another byte be assigned to that variable. So they would have to change the variable and increase by 100% the amount of bandwidth taken up by game scores.

Bandwidth thing is probably fairly trivial but not nothing. Work to change is perhaps more involved. Not sure if it would just be changing the line that defines the variable or if it would require numerous alterations. I think anyway. My programming Fu was never strong and hails from the days of Fortran M77 and when C was new. Just C.

Using a regular int to store it would let me see that 32,767 - 0 game in all it's stupefying glory though.
