I keep reading in various position and player building forums that you shouldn't spend your SPs, something to do with ALGs, but I'm not sure. I've even read that you shouldn't spend your SPs until the off-season. This seems crazy, I certainly don't understand the logic. Save your SPs they tell me. For what? And Why? Can anyone make it clear?

Save your SP's until you can get to the next cap. This is just to take advantage of ALGs
Thanks guys
So, let's say a major attribute is still 15 points away from the 1st skill cap at 49.08, do I spend them or train until I reach that cap?
This begs the next question.
Once you hit 1st ability soft cap, is it then worth moving on to another attribute to get it to the 1st softcap or do you press on to second and third and so on in the primary you are training.
eg: My Lvl 13 Linebacker is about to hit the second softcap in speed. He is presently 59.87. He is quad training and in two more trainings time (8 days), he will reach that softcap. Should I then return to single attribute training at intense to get him to the third or should I stick with quad training?

If you major attribute is 15 SP away from 49.08, spend them definitely. Training from 39-49 is a very bad idea.
Get your main attribute to the 7th or 8th cap before even spending an SP in a secondary attribute. Stick with quad training. It will help you out with some of your secondaries as you get your main attribute to 84-87.

Ah, I see. So players get past the 1st softcap, match XP will provide SPs, save them until you can reach the next softcap but stay just under it and then train over the softcap limit to take advantage of the ALG.
Am I understanding this right?
eg. My LB will cross the second softcap in 8 days with two more trainings. He has 5 SPs, I should save them until training does this and then wait for 5 more SPs gained from XP to take him to the 3rd softcap?

You got it
Train, then wait for the SP's that will take him over the 3rd softcap (68).

That's only a good idea for builds that will rely on ~3 attributes above all others, like passing QB, OL, and pass rushing DL. Most other build types should be more balanced.

So what cap would you go up to in a balanced build? Let's say a HB?

I think an important component being missed in this thread is understanding the why.
As a rule of thumb, training value (not just the percentage you see but the actual net value) is highest right after a cap. Ideally, you want to maximize the time you spend training an attribute that has just been turned over. That's the basic premise with jumping from one cap to another.
Likewise, ALGs (automatic level gains) are additions to your attributes that you get with each level up. These ALGs are flat values, not affected by caps, so they are worth MORE in terms of SP-value when they occur on higher attributes.
Think of it this way. If you receive ALGs on an attribute that is 35 (in the range where it costs 1 SP to raise it 1) you are only getting the value of that ALG. If however that attribute is 65 (in the range where it costs 3 SP to raise it 1) you are getting TRIPLE the SP-value of that ALG because of the cost to raise the attribute 1 with SPs.

73 or 77. Back in the day I did take every build straight to 83 or 85, but with accelerated leveling and four-way multi-training that's only best for really extreme results. For instance, I do want my OL to have strength, agility, and blocking in huge amounts and I'm not really worried about anything else. But on my HB, I need more than crazy speed. I want him to be able to break tackles and catch passes effectively as well. What I'm saying isn't that going to 83+ is wrong, but rather that how far you go depends on what kind of dot you want to make. If you do want to be a super-speed HB like Catch22's on my team, then you need to go even beyond 85, and that's a perfectly valid choice. Just keep in mind that going to such extremes is not the only way to build.

I have 1 more question for you. When do you unlock multi-training? After the 2nd cap?
