How does this work? At the end of this season most (if not all) of my human dots are age 37d, which is the hard cap on player ages in this league level. Will those players automatically be cut or does something else happen?

If the teams(s) that they are on are in rookie league............. the teams will move up a league, and the players will remain on the team.... unless you have contracts that expire on day 40.
And remember that when a team owner sends a two year contract it is actually only extending your contract by one year. GLB logic is this...season 1 is the current season, season 2 is next season.

Yes. If you let them expire, you will have to offer them back and will take a huge chemistry hit.
