In the NFL the best CB is almost always matched up with the best WR regardless what slot he lines up in. Defenses should be able to do that in glb to eliminate some of the mis-matches that happen.

And the opposite, to never line up a certain CB with a certain WR - or assignment archetype (ie not speedy)

Player to player I would think, or CB slot to player.

Maybe CB slot to Tag would be the easiest way to do it in the current sim.

Perhaps, in the "tag" dropdown box, you could add "tag #1 WR on depth chart". At least this could cause a nice game of cat-and-mouse for OC's and DC's as the opponent could move their #1 WR to #2 (or whatever) on their depth chart before a game... but that would also mean plays specifically designed for the top WR would also be a little messed up. Sounds like fun! +1

this sounds possible. A possibility is instead of a dropbox, the DC can rank/prioritize what receivers a specific CB covers by name,

Ways to Implement

1) Via Scouting Window

This would work such that you could assign a specific defender, or a specific existing depth chart position to defend this defender when he appears on the field. You would want to make it a priority over the depth chart position (ie CB1) if chosen so it would pick first and then the back up CB1 would be used versus the WR1 slot (unless that too had a specific defender assigned).
