Hear Me Out
Nothing squelches interesting conversation like having a party in a house of closets.
Indeed this is why parties are held in large rooms - so that everyone can mingle together and see who they wish to speak with and in general make the whoopee.
In GLB we have an insane number of distinct forums which are needlessly policed such that people wishing to talk politics are over here but revolutionaries have to sit over there and economic theorists in yet a third room - the end result being that everyone winds up sitting in a little box talking to themselves.
Okay not quite that bad. But darned near.
For instance we have Suggestions which has threads with the last response being SIX days ago on page one, FAQ with NINE day old page one threads and only four so far today in total (and one was modded there), Game Recaps also with 9 day old threads and only 3 today, General Discussion with 6 day old threads and no less than SIX freaking subforums (with subforums of THEIR OWN) that have several MONTHS old threads on their page ones. There are so many different forums I have never been in all of them and have already gotten too bored to continue to try and sample them all for this paragraph!!!!!!
That is just ridiculous and its BAD FOR BUSINESS. People LIKE to talk to each other and to have others talk back to them, as many people as possible. That is why every game has a forum community, it makes people like the game more and stay around more.
So why so many forums? Is someone a control freak or something? Let it go. Follow the Benjamins.
Merge forums into more generalized common sense topical areas and the fewer of those the better. ONE General GLB forum including Suggestions, Recaps and Brags and Questions and Game discussions and recaps and everything GLB related other than Bugs with ONE Newb Questions forum not to separate questions but that mods could make sure they answer the Qs there which should be from really new players about really novice issues. ONE OffTopic Forum about non game issues. And that would be about the long and short of it, besides your Looking For Players, League, bug, announcements and game changes forums of course.
I mean come on. You're contracting the leagues for a reason. The same reasons and more require contraction of the Forums.
