Fake a spike would be better.

Allows defenses to blow up a kneel down ala Bucs vs Giants.

we also need that play where there's like 8 seconds left, it's fourth down and you don't want to punt it and give them a chance, so your guy runs around in the wrong direction until the clock expires and then chucks it out of bounds
