Maybe its just me, but some positions just seem to be impossible to fill at an age level some seasons. For instance this season I have two pro level teams that can not get a second center and last time I checked there were none on the market. Third/Fourth TEs are also hard to come by at that age level. Last season or three there was an upcoming age bracket (240s now? 200s forget) that could not find an OT for beans. Few seasons back DTs were gold. And so on and so forth.

Meanwhile other similar positions are over flowing. I could not sign all the pro age guards who wanted to come to OffTopica if I made a cheer leading squad out of them, for instance. And lets not even talk about scrambling QBs.

So we have owners filling holes with mismatched dots and other agents whose dots are in the soup kitchens.

Why not put them together in a way that is more satisfying - and more workable with the existing recruiting tools on the forums and Marketplace/Search - than OOP play?

DOT POSITION CONVERSION

Allow an agent to convert a dot from one position to another, with an expenditure of flex. The range of conversions would be limited appropriately, with O linemen able to convert to other O linemen or Blocking TEs or FBs but no other positions, and so forth. These options ONLY will be available to convert into a dot type that is in high demand at that dots or a higher age level.

COSTS TO CONVERT

BASE COST - Equal to the combined cost of making a Dot of the starting and ending position (ie 100 and 200 if Guard to TE lets say for a cost of 300)

BOOST CATCH UP COST . Catch Up cost of flex to make up boost costs if the two positions are not equal cost, such that if you are trying to convert that Guard to a Tight end, you would pay a Catch Up Cost of 100 flex per times the TE has boosted at the time of conversion.

OOP PENALTY COST. An additional cost of 0, 1000, 2000 or 3000 flex depending on the OOP Level of the Conversion. This would roughly coincide with the current OOP Penalty but with the starting level being a conversion within Archtype (this would merely change the penalized and favored SAs). An Archtype Conversion OOP penalty would be 1000 Flex. A Guard to OT or Center Conversion would be a OOP Penalty Cost of 2000. Guard to Blocking FB or Blocking TE would be 3000. No other conversions would be allowed for a Guard. Etc.

So if the Guard has boosted 30 times, then the Guard to TE conversion would cost 300 plus 3000 Catch Up and 3000 OOP penalty for a total conversion cost of 6300 total flex. Of this flex only the Catch Up Penalty would be subject to the 70% refund, the rest would be expended and lost.

EFFECTS OF CONVERSION

The effects of a conversion would be as follows.

All Skill and Attributes are reduced 10, 20 or 30 percent depending on the OOP Penalty. SAs and VAs and AEQ are fully reset, and the resulting SPs and VPs and BTs are reduced by 10, 20, or 30 percent accordingly.

The dot is then converted into a dot of the new position and archetype. If needed his weight is altered to reflect the closest minimum or maximum of the new position to his pre-conversion weight. Height really should stay the same unless thats a huge problem.

NOTE - the positions that can be converted, the exact costs and penalties and effects are of course negotiable. The idea though is if you can make it expensive and penalized enough that its not something people would do as an exploit, this sure would be nice to have as an option in some cases.

The shortage was already apparent and why I had to refuse that excellent opportunity, with much regret.

I thought it was clever, particularly the making it insanely expensive so Bort may be attracted to it.

What about size? If you have a 6'2" 250LB blocking TE that you want to make into a Run Blocking Guard that is minimum 310LB, might mess with the game dynamics. Fix that and +1.

@ Dogs - good point. I guess you could change the weight to nearest minimums. Height would seem odd. Edited to reflect the weight issue.

@ Myd - thats why its negotiable in the details. Would have to be balanced and only Bort could really do the math on that.

@ Spade - most of them were quick and easy, this one took longer than was worthwhile admittedly
