Does this mean the player "spying" on the QB will be focused only on the QB run or could this help the player read any run play better?

focuses on the QB and kinda sucks if the QB does not run

Yup.

The man "spying" tends to be out of position against the pass. That often means there is a hole somewhere in your coverages which can be exploited.

It's really only meant to stop scramblers, and the top scramblers are often weak throwers. So either you need a big pass rush to flush the QB out of the pocket, or you need a great coverage scheme that leaves no one open, forcing the QB to run instead. Even then, the top scramblers are slippery-sneaky bastiches. Gotta have the right match up, or get burned.

A lot of risk with little reward....unless you're facing a Vick clone, IMO.

I meant to imply if the scrambling QB hands it off. The spy usually looks stupid for a few ticks

Hell even blitzing this season makes the blitzer look stupid for a few ticks. They completely focus on the QB even after he has handed the ball off.
