For example, let's say my energy is at 50% at the start of the play. Does that mean the entire play my dot performs the play at 50% energy? Or does that mean my dot starts at 50% energy and as the play develops, my player gets weaker?

At first, I thought it was the latter, since the energy bar drains but check out my return man... Despite losing over 50% of his stamina on this PR TD, he seems to run the same speed when he's galloping into the endzone as he does when he first gets the ball.

Anyone know?

On the speed graphs he looks like he's bouncing just above the 30 mark in the beginning of the breakaway, but by the end he's bouncing just below it.

I think it's only affected by the energy / breath at the start of the play, but I don't know for sure.

i've seen players come to a near dead halt late on long returns as their energy drops, so i would say the loss of energy goes as the play goes.

I have never seen this happen on the speed script. http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=2066920&pbp_id=1402431 First play of the game for a dot with 21.37 stamina and his energy bar drops by about 40% but his speed never declines on the straight-away. From a couple of seasons ago on the opening kickoff: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1979849&pbp_id=5063219 That dot loses over half his energy bar during the play and yet the speed script says that his speed did not decline with energy loss.

I have seen it happen, but I think it may have been the season that Bort tried bumping up the impact of Energy and Morale alot which eventually got lowered to where it is today. I doubt I could find a replay to support this tho. Just going off memory.

As a builder of a few returners myself, and as a ST coach), I'd say it's relative. Remember that every dot on the field is also losing energy as well so while your returner might look fresh as a daisy, he smells just as bad as any other dot on the field at the time. I will say I've never seen a dot stop (or collapse) on the field when the bar hits zero... but I suspect that the special abilities start to struggle to fire (like spin or break tackle) and even the skills become less efficient (like agility, vision...). I've noticed that my returners, at lower levels (therefore with less stamina) seem to preform moves much easier early in the game... and later they just face exhausted defenders so they just run and pray a lot to slip past (which happens plenty).
As far as a dot's "speed" goes, I don't think it is effected much at all. I'd suspect the same of strength also. But I definitely feel agility is effected... perhaps vision as well. Hard to tell because it's always relative to the rest of the dots on the field.

If speed isn't affected then nothing is. The only empirical evidence we have suggests that the effect of energy is determined at the start of the play and does not degrade during the play as energy is drained.

I wouldn't say dead stop, but, yes, returners will slow over the course of a play as their energy drops.

LHF, either post some actual evidence that energy decline during a play affects attributes or stop spreading wrong information.
