it's more the fact that you'll LOSE any over 14 that you have if your on a team and your contract expires or you get cut
I'd be all for at very minimum an alert, and you have 1-2 days to train / join a team before you lose them

Yeah, this needs to go away, as does any limit for dots still on a roster. At the end-build, we're sometimes trying to figure out how to maximize the build, and it might take awhile. So long as we're logging on (the alleged point of the limits), then we should continue to get training.

Maybe don't trade in your XP until you're ready to train? Also, "logging on" was never "the alleged point." Think "slow build" and you'll be closer to the point.

That too, but they already did away with "slow build" and sitting on a ton of training wasn't going to enhance a slowbuild anyway.

i had a bunch of low level dots who had about 24 TP each on day 38, i was busy so i was gonna train them when they all reached 30 TP, but whoops they all became free agents 3 days later on day 41 and all lost out on 16 TP's each because they weren't on teams.
I understand having a 30 TP max limit, what i don't understand is why the capped max is 14 when your not on a team and not just simply 30 like the regular max

I agree, I'd rather see a 30 max, but I think the idea was to try and get people to want to sign onto a team much faster if they were cut or for some other reason an FA in regular season
but with CPU teams etc, I really see no reason to have the cap 14. I'd say 30 is a reasonable cap, because you want to encourage people to log on. 30 makes the cap come into effect as soon as you hit red inactive (or if you don't train for some reason). In either case, I can see the idea behind wanting to prevent red inactive people from being able to come back and train... although with auto training, one could argue the point

In the very least:
I could see an alert warning:
"Attention!
Your player ________ has more than 14 training points, and has a contract that is about to expire in ______ days. Please train to prevent losing the training points. Please note that the rollover after you have left a team you will be force-ably reduced to a 14 training points cap."
Also make one for "you are not on a team.", and allow the 1 day incase a person was cut

Wasn't the original justification for this to stop some sort of slow building exploit? If so, it has been rendered obsolete by the APD changes and should be removed.
