Instead of just having a man "Blitz", there should be a way to set a default option for the play, such as "Outside", "Inside", or "Straight" (the normal one as it is now). It would make gearing a play toward inside or outside runs more concrete--players would need to see if holes develop and switch their paths on the fly if a better one opens, which most RL defenders have to do.
The tradeoff is in plays that don't go right at the defense: With greater play customization comes different ways to beat it. If a play defaults to "Outside Blitz"es and the offense runs up the middle, the offense beats the play. If the defeneders have good Vision, they can read and react to it, but they'd be at a disadvantage.
I think this would allow a greater variety of options in what a DC wants out of a particular play. What do you think?
