2. Implement a bonus/penalty to various attributes depending on Archetype

Seriously though, it works for the SA's why can't it work for attributes, you can even show the penalty in the same space it shows the "decline" stats at.
Big Bonus = Major Attribute
Small Bonus = Minor
Penalty = What the Archetype is bad against. You can even skip the penalty part.
