Since the morale bonus that is tied to salary adjusts slowly over 20 days, why is it that you need to pay the higher salary during the entire ramp up in morale? If I get a huge raise, my morale goes way up immediately.

I understand why Bort and Co. have the ramp up and ramp down morale, and I agree with it containing exploits to an extent.

My suggestion would be to only charge the team for the morale bonus given. As morale ramps up, money ramps at the same rate. Now I know someone will want to chime in about the morale drop when negotiating the salary lower. This may cause issues with teams that have over spent and want to lower costs, well they could have an option to drop all morale bonus' and immediately stop paying the higher prices.

Flame away.

Does your morale go "way up immediately" after learning about your raise, or after the money has come in? Serious question.

For me yes. Plus with getting paid every single day money is coming in right away.

only way I would consider the 'Personal Instant Change, Team Change Over Time' change would be that any renegotiated down contracts would be a double morale hit to the player for a season.
Yeah, seems dickish, but I have seen a lot of teams that play around with the salaries often in seasons past to make sure players have high morale for key games.

it only takes 20 days to fully vest if you re-negotiate during the season

do it in the off season and you get it from day 1

this was done intentionally so people don't go min salary all year and on day 33 for the playoffs they go max

That doesn't directly address the suggestion at all. Would you mind connecting the dots?

I was thinking the same.

As for the OP, I totally agree. I'm signing people up to extra seasons, and I'll have to pay more due to the desired salary raising as players age. So, I give them a payrise for the coming season, as I don't need the morale bonus this season, but next I will.

So, I end up paying the 'next season' salary, and then getting hit with luxury tax and suchlike. It's not a friendly system. Either we should do what the OP is suggesting, and stagger the increase in wage in the same way the morale bonus does, OR we just allow you to offer an extension, but the new wage doesn't come into play til the current seasons contract has ended.

I've made a suggestion similar to this in the past...plus, when the dots were fed speed so that they could level faster, I don't believe this was ever taken into consideration. Often times, as most forward thinking owners do during the regular season to get a jump on recruiting needs, setup morale for upcoming season, etc. these teams find themselves well over the cap.

I don't believe that the cap was ever adjusted when leveling speed was increased. As a result, I too agree with the OP and with this:

Any of the negatives have any reason for not wanting this?
