Forum > Suggestions > Improve the ability of dlinemen to bat down passes and/or effectiveness of VA towering man.

The concept of towering man is great. Dlineman who have the awareness to bat down passes are a huge asset in football, however this VA appears to not be very effective.

I've tried it on a DT with the following attributes. I'm not sure I'd be able to spend more on this DT without greatly reducing his ability to break blocks/make tackles which is his primary responsibility. Almost all of his PDs have come in blowouts.
6' 8"
50+ jumping
80+ vision
+11% deflect ball
4+ swat ball
15 towering man

Which DT is this?

Not to nitpick, but your DT that is closest has 50 jumping, 79 vision, 3 in Swat Ball (which is a penalty SA).

I agree that PD's don't occur nearly as often as they should at the line (a.k.a. they are extremely rare) but that DT isn't the best example.

thx for reminding me to close those builds

it's the DT that you're referring to (freak rush). he previously had high jumper VA and CEQ on swat ball, but i just removed them at the end of this offseason (dropping jumping & swat ball a bit). he still has +15 in football genius which actually puts his vision around 84.

you don't think he's a good example of a DT that should be able to get PDs? what attributes would you expect on a DT to bat down balls?

Not needed, I don't know what sort of build you need but it can be done:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/scout_team.pl?team_id=1899

Averaging nearly 8 PD's a game between the 6 D-linemen so its definetely more a case of fix ur builds than fix the effectiveness in the sim.

that is pretty impressive however i expected there would be an example of a success case and i'd like to see how common this success is. i've talked to a few agents who have built a lot of dlinemen that have had very little success with this. i wonder if 68 jumping/10 swat ball is required.

Dline knock downs should not be the norm. Yeah, it happens, but how often is enough would be the balance key.

+1 I'd like to see a slight buff, as right now it seems to be something that's almost impossible to force.

It is if your build is not going to get jumping over 50 though.

Half a dozen deflections a season is not worth 300 BTs.

I had a 6'3" DT with low Jumping deflect a couple of passes at the line, so I got his Jumping up and then invested in Towering Man-- and he gets fewer deflections at the line than before-- of course, everyone else at his level is improving at the same time; but they aren't getting taller.

It seems like a slight buff would probably make some sense....

would towering man stack with third down stopper or is there a cap on how much % boost VAs can give to deflect ball?
