If I can't get both I would rather just be able to ONLY release them. So figure this as 2 suggestions related close enough to put them into one thread.

Release?

Sign?

Sign/Release?

To allow them to sign players before playoff teams can would definitely give them too much of an advantage in getting talent for the following season. I had almost posted that if they can ONLY release them that would be fine, but I realized that then they save money by not paying out their contract and the players they release can't train (although for the latter part the "You have to be on a team during the season to train" rule could be amended to only include the regular season; but teams can't be allowed to save the money by cutting them before their contracts expire).

this, there is too many issues. It isn't broken as it currently is, why change it when there's very little value in it.

I've have no issue with signing new players, but cutting is a bad idea since dots can't train without a team until the off season.

+1 to the OP

This is completely wrong. Teams aren't going to have much of an advantage really, because the better players aren't going to just sign with a team because they are out of the playoffs and able to sign them, probably the exact opposite. The better players won't sign with them because they AREN'T in the playoffs, so very little advantage.

The deal with releasing players can easily be handled by a requirement that the remaining full salary be paid for the rest of the season at the time of cut. You could also put in a player approval option so teams couldn't just cut guys which would satisfy Dr. E concern.

Most of you guys have been around long enough to know that this will not give a non-playoff team any kind of advantage at all. Back when I was recruiting and DCing, it was nearly impossible to get a decent dot to sign if you weren't a playoff team. I don't exactly know how I feel about the OP, but saying -1 because it gives non-playoff teams an advantage is just plain wrong.

I call total BS on this.

I don't really have a problem with this suggestion as long as the team cutting the dot has to pay a daily penalty equal to the remaining salary.

Is there any possibility that allowing the OP would muck up the league sorting process?
