With the regular season over, I'll move on to the playoffs. Despite not really following action in the Hedgehogs, er, Western Division I'll include them in my predictions because, well, I can.
Western Conference
#1 5th Masterminds vs #8 Sin City Spoilers - Unlike their brethren in the East, the team from Sin City isn't likely to make much noise in the West. They kept their regular season game against the Masterminds close (read: non-blowout adjusted) but I suspect that's the best they can hope for in this win. Masterminds win 74-13.
#4 Monmouth Evil Monkeys vs #5 American Terrorists - Since dropping back to USA Pro from the WL, the Evil Monkeys have never lost in the first round of the playoffs. I don't see that trend coming to an end this season. The Terrorists are a solid squad, but just don't look to have enough offense to earn the victory. Evil Monkeys win 34-17.
#3 Chicago Hedgehogs vs #6 Tulsa Storm - When was the last time Chicago went more than two seasons in USA Pro after demoting back from the WL? Has it ever happened? Will is happen this season? Well, I don't see Tulsa standing in their way in the first round. Chicago wins 45-24.
#2 SOUTH GEORGIA GROWL vs #7 Arkham Asylum Jokers - This is a very interesting matchup. The Jokers won 7 of 8 games in the second half of the season while the Growl suffered all 4 of their losses in the same time frame. Did the Jokers catch up with the sim? Did the league catch up with South Georgia? What the hell, I'll take the upset here. Jokers win 35-27.
Eastern Conference
#1 Las Vegas Gold Diggers vs #8 College Station Aggies - Las Vegas can't be happy that the Aggies fell to the #8 seed. The Aggies hung tough in the regular season at home, but this one's on the road. I don't see how the Aggies have enough, though, to get past the Gold Differs in this one. Las Vegas wins 35-6.
#4 Nashville Hounds vs #5 Denver Giant 9'ers - Typically the 4 vs 5 matchup is going to be one of the best in the playoffs. I don't see this one being any different. Both teams are very dangerous and I expect this one to go down to the wire. Denver upsets the Hounds 27-24.
#2 Oakland Suppressors vs #7 Tennessee Fury - This is a very intriguing matchup. Historically, neither team has fared well in the playoffs. In addition, these teams have faced off twice before this season with Oakland winning both games by single digits. In the NFL they say its tough to beat a team 3 times in a season. I'll carry that forward to GLB and pick Fury with the upset. Fury wins 24-21.
#3 All The King's Men vs #6 Richey Royals - The Royals are a very dangerous squad, despite being under-leveled. They played a brutal early schedule and pulled off a huge win in week 15 to make the playoffs. That said, they are playing an ATKM squad that is looking to find their way back into the WL. I just don't think Richey has enough to pull off this win but next season? Look out! ATKM wins 35-27.
Well, there ya have it. I made the homer pick in the Fury vs Oakland game...picked two other upsets...and went out on a limb and predicted winners in USA Pro's junior division, the West. I may have botched them all but, hell, at least I'm trying.
