Moral? Or maybe a team decides to fold midseason and wants to give its dots a chance to prove themselves available the next season?

Your argument doesn't make sense? If they decide to fold... they are on a CPU team. Anyone can sign someone off of a CPU team...

Ok. They plan on folding after the season, the dot is signed to a 2 season contract and another teams see that, discouraging them from making plans for that dot. Am I not understanding what he means by a short term contract? One that ends during the current, active season?

Short term, is like if I signed you on day one. And your contract ends before day 40....
So If I signed you to a 2 season contract and its around day 40 I would either A. cut them or B. if it was before day 40 I would just renegotiate the contract.

But it would still say day 40 of next season on the player page during the current season, potentially discouraging other teams from being interested. Especially those that don't communicate...

NO
If it was day 39. and I signed a player to a ONE SEASON. Its the closest day 40.
"Contract Length (1 season means the contract ends on day 40 of THIS SEASON)"
if it is two Seasons. It is not the closest day 40 but the one after.

It's an option. No one has to use it. I'm against taking away options that don't hurt anyone and don't provide an unfair advantage to anyone.

Someone who doesn't trust a owner, and wants to make sure the team they go to is a decent team and what they promise they are
