How many people are going to have their DE's play OLB in the 3-4 when it's up and complete? What do you think the optimal build would be for that position?

I am just as interested in DT's playing DE. Anyone doing that?

That would be interesting. I have a lvl. 18 DE that could possibly make the switch to a 3-4 OLB. There shouldn't be a penalty seeing that most of the 3-4 OLBs where college DEs.

i was just tryingto gauge what others are doing. in situations where we're going to run the 3-4, i'm getting put at the WILL LB. i think DE's with good vision and good tackle are a must in that position. and my speed strength and agility are all basically even. this was the position i had in mind when i made my DE.

The young Tom Selleck. Love it.

I was thinking about this, as well. It seems logical to keep putting SPs into the core pass-rushing DE skills (STR, SPD, AGI) up until the 48 marker, at least. I believe tackling and vision should be the attributes that are unnaturally high (for a DE). I wonder how much jumping should be increased, since you will see increased pass-coverage.

Overall, I agree with your assertions, but only time will tell. A balanced DE would be best. SP would be less important except for diving tackle, swat, and first step.

I think DEs at OLB will make for an AMAZING run stuffing D. D-Line Shed Block seems to be more consistently effective and will play a BIG part in shedding the DE, especially for current LDEs who are used to being double teamed or worse on nearly every running play.

LDEs who convert to OLB, despite the penalty (which I believe is very minor), should be more effective, especially on outside running plays due to probable 1-on-1 blocking from the TE or OT (most likely the TE as I expect the OT would block the DE).
