I wanted to try and make a pure possession/YAC wide receiver which are generally bigger guys in the NFL. I was thinking of running him with around 40 strength which should easily allow him to break tackles of CB's and some safeties.

At Level 4:
Strength: 35 Blocking: 10
Speed: 19.33 Tackling: 8
Agility: 24.33 Throwing: 8
Jumping: 13.79 Catching: 12.33
Stamina: 12.33 Carrying: 12
Vision: 15.33 Kicking: 9
Confidence: 12.99 Punting: 9

I don't really expect him to be effective until around level 15 or so where his stats should look like:

Strength: 40
Speed: 35
Agility: 30
Jumping: 20
Vision: 30
Catching: 20

With whatever left over points I have into Route Running, which will probably be the only SA I will even put points into. I will also have confidence training on relaxed the entire time, and should be in the low 20's. Of course I will run him on "power". Beyond 15 I will probably roll with 2-1-1-1 in str-speed-agi-vision each level.

Thoughts? Yay/Nay?

Interesting idea. I just don't know how you will have a Level 15 POSSESSION Receiver with 20 catching.

You don't need a ton of catching. I have level 18 WR with 23 catching and he had 4 drops in 2 seasons.

Just an update for anyone who was curious, here is a play from his last D-league game, of which I'm hoping for a lot more of once his build is "done" around level 15ish:

nice, it even looked liked a little stiff arm there at the end lol, maybe this experiment will end the discussion about importance of strength

Granted it is in the D-league, but the corner covering him was 1 level higher. I'm quite pleased with it so far.

I have a similar, though slightly more balanced build. Also at an early level. Once I made the move from D league team to expansion team, the problem was more about getting open. I had to take a break from putting points into str to put them into agl & vis.

Can't wait to see how both turn out.

i wish you hadn't said anything about your WR. I'm making a similar guy and planning on getting around 40 strength; I wanted to keep him on the ~down low~ so that other agents don't start countering it.

i wonder how much vision you need for this type of WR. You obviously need enough to catch the ball. But you're going to be bulling over defenders so you won't need extra vision for juking and stuff like that.

Well, the only real way to counter it will be to pump str/tackling on corners which makes the vulnerable to speed receivers.

I highly suspect that catching isn't just about not dropping the ball, but is about hauling it in when it would otherwise sail right past you. I also think you will have a tougher time catching deflected balls, and keeping the ball out of the hands of sticky fingered cornerbacks.

That, and it's about catching it more 'neatly'. With low catching, you might catch it, but you'll stand in place bobbling it now and again.
