Easter Island Moai @ Kansas City Crossfire
Back when I was familiar with Easter Island as the owner of WSR, they were a pretty damn tough team to be beat. Kansas City & Easter Island look like they could easily make some noise in OPL. This might just be the most evenly matched game played in week 1. When you really look through these teams there is only one area that sticks out as a glaring difference. So for Easter Island's sake, hopefully this game doesn't come down to a FG kick.
Deadwood Mules @ Indianapolis Gurupies
Already being called a favorite to win OPL I'm sure Indy isn't worried about week 1. But they might want to start to worry. This game could make a liar out of me when it comes to the Easter Island game being the closest matched. There's going to be more gut slinging, bone crunching action in this game then Monster Trucks mowing over Austin Martin's. Listen, there is one thing that I guarantee about this game. If Deadwood wins, EVERYONE will start taking them seriously.
Oberon Bulls @ Axis Pinoy All Stars 2
I've called Pinoy a favorite in OPL, but that is NOT to suggest I'm over looking Oberon. There are not too many teams that I think could work their way up as 'my darkhorse' in the OPL. Oberon is one of them. Axis, well I know this much, they're well built and they're for real. So, for me, Oberon has something to prove, come out of this game with a win and tha'tll do it. It's time to put up or shut up. How you approach week 1, might just determine which direction your spiral goes for the rest of the season.
Week 1 Tostito-Goal Game of the Week
Gold Coast Michelin Men @ Southbend Rhinocopters
I picked this game because of my admiration for GCMM and my belief in the potential of South Bend. I think this one could be uglier than a girl scout trying to sell cookies to the deaf and blind. Do I expect a high scoring game? Not in the slightest. I fully expect this game to be a defensive struggle that comes down to a long FG to win it all. One of these teams are going to set the tone for their entire season and one of them are going to set up themselves up for a week 2 Must. Luckily for GCMM, their week 2 is basically a bye week. But don't think relying on 'off weeks' is going to win you a OPL Championship, because that kind of thinking will send you packing early.
