write up warning: was a bit hard to decipher the league this early, so I really looked at the top few teams and went from there, my favorites may see a change midseason. Wouldn't that be interesting

Early Favorites to win OPL:

Alpha

Axis: Pinoy All Stars 2: Being familiar with the types of builds this team recruits, it's hard not to list them as a potential favorite to win it all. They've done one hell of a job recruiting. I do have some question marks about their offensive line and how they'll match up against opposing Dlines, but we'll see later down the road. They definitely have the ability to make a statement.

Brantford Promnight Dumpster Babies: They seem very capable of winning Alpha, however the laundry list of inactives has me questioning my own judgement. But hey, maybe their owners good looks will be enough to get them by. Who says Distraction is against the rules? It worked for Keanu Reeves and his buddys amirite?

Zeta

Sumatra Seahawks: Despite being a One and Done in World League, they still have a strong sense of competitiveness. They didn't get to World League by being panzies...or did they , Seriously, this team has done a great job recruiting in the hopes they get right back to World League, it's no secret that they could care less if they win OPL because WL is their goal. But that doesn't mean they wouldn't like to win OPL and they'll get a great shot at it.

Amsterdam Bulls: At face value they look that have done a very good job recruiting and sustaining talent. They could end up being the team playing smash mouth football in the Conference Championship with Sumatra. At this point, they seem capable of exactly that.

Both conferences look to have their strengths and weaknesses, but I'm not going to lie, Zeta looks about usual. There's a lot of teams I think it's safe to say, the only statement they'll make this year is about how many more seasons they'll stick around OPL. Having said that, the casualties of CPU's doesn't help anyone's case. Syracuse might as well be a CPU team because they're equivalent to exactly that. I wanted to pick Tampa Bay as a favorite to win Alpha but I couldn't in my right mind do that as the last time they won a gold trophy was back in AA. Did I mention that was in Season 17? So it really looks like some people are going to have to step up and make a liar out of me in order to earn some respect. We're not playing scrabble people, this is dotball, let's make some freakin' noise or do yourself a favor and move aside for the people that can.

My two cents:

Alpha will be Buda vs. Banzai in the conference championship game.

Zeta looks like Amsterdam's to lose, altho I think Sumatra, Gold Coast, and Komodo may have something to say about it. Just not sure if they will be able to make up nearly 100 SPs in EL.

We had a hefty EL last season too, and didn't get it done. I think us, Sumatra, GCV and KD are the top 4...any one of which could win it.

Oberon is going with many more younger dots than usual this season so it should be interesting.

This seems more accurate tbh, don't forget about Indy...

Sumatra has to be the team to beat in zeta, 2 time WL vets, when it comes down to it they will be tough to beat. But Gold Coast Vipers have been getting better every season and were only 4 points away last CCG. Amsterdam will be there as well. Komodo we'll see how much effort they put into it but they are in the running as well. These teams are close enough to where I wouldn't be surprised if any of the 4 won

lol. Just looked at the schedule. Nothing like starting preseason with the Alpha favorite and then starting the regular season against them as well! Not when you want to be playing those teams when you are still recruiting/setting things in place. We probably won't even have our players in the right slots in our OAI until week 3.

Love a challenge!

Wow. Missed that hefty EL on Indy. Somehow, I thought Indy joining with EEA might make them a little less competitive, but I think I agree with you.

Wow, my team is favored by JR. Well I like it but obviously the top 10 teams on OPL-Alpha are in the following order:

1. Buda Pests
Even though they missed the bus to the big dance, this team is loaded again this season and with their coordinators will again most likely have another big regular season. Prediction: 16-0

2. Banzai Pipeline 'Nites
This team will most likely repeat their last season's performance. Pretty good team with one of the top effective levels this season. Predictio: 15-1

3. The GlobeDotters: Indianapolis Gurupies
I think I heard somewhere that the Gurupies merged with the EEA but looking at their roster they still are a force to reckon with. Dropping back to OPL land to reload, look for this to contend and make a run deep in the playoffs. Prediction: 14-2

4. OffTopica Miracle
Very nice team with a very good special teams. Can their old dots hold on and help the younger dots get to the next level? We'll see but they are still a team not to take lightly. Prediction: 13-3

5. SWAT City Vigilantes
Team that closely resembles OffTopica. They will always play good and will most likely surprise the teams above them. Prediction: 12-4

6. Axis: Pinoy All Stars 2
Not surprisingly, I put my team at #6. Despite the shellacking that this team got from the top teams of last season (i.e. Buda, Banzai) they proved to be a tough nut to crack. Came on OPL last season with 359 day old dots this team will try to make their run this season with mostly 399 day old dots. Prediction: 11-5

7. Gold Coast Michelin Men
One of the deadlier teams that you don't like to see on your schedule. Mark them down and be ready to bring on your A game because they will always bring their A game with them. Prediction: 9-7

8. Tampa Bay Puganeers
A strong team if TBF will not go on another long vacation. Roster turnover this season was bad and they're still reloading but they're still going to win games and scare a few of the top teams. Prediction: 9-7

9. Northwood Trojans
Among the newly promoted teams, I take the Trojans to make some noise this season. They were pretty good last season but will find it rough in their first season on OPL. Prediction: 8-8

10. Brantford Promnight Dumpster Babies
Solid looking roster, I probably am ranking them a bit lower but hey this is just a guesstimate.
Might give a few of the stronger teams a tougher match. 8-8
