As expected, Alpha beat Zeta handily in Week 1, thus proving that once again, Zeta is lol. Since Devonport joined OPL in Season 18, Alpha has never lost to Zeta, so even if there is history to the old lolAlpha claim, with 2 straight Alpha champs, and 6 straight Alpha Week 1 victories, Zeta has full ownership of the lol name.

Previous week's ranking in ( ).

Top Ten

#1 (1) - SoCal BDC (1-0) - SoCal retains the top spot by beating top 10 Amsterdam Bulls with a dominant rushing attack and ball hawking D. Play of the game: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667225&pbp_id=2580155 . Next up for SoCal is HCreek's CPU team. (Prediction - SoCal by a bunch)

#2 (3) - Devonport Devils (1-0) - Devonport moves up to #2 by virtue of a solid, if unspectacular, win over Asau. The FG kickers got a real work out in that game, but this was probably the play of the game for Devonport. http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667228&pbp_id=2581449 . Next up is the Tampa Bay Puganeers (Prediction - Devonport by 35)

#3 (2) - Asau Pirates (0-1) - Even though they lost in Week 1, the game was nearly a draw and Asau still looks like the best team in Zeta. There are a couple of Alpha teams that could make an argument they deserve to be above Asau at this point, but for now, Asau only drops a spot. Play of the game for Asau: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667228&pbp_id=2581573 . Up next for Asau is newcomer Komodo Dragon. (Prediction - Asau by 31)

#4 (4) - Buda Pests (1-0) - Buda won their week 1 game, but I am a little surprised by the margin of victory. No offense intended to South Bend, but I figured Buda would stomp them. That is largely why I did not rank them over Asau. Still, if anyone doubts Buda, just check out their near victory over WL Providence. They will be a force in Alpha this season. Play of the game for Buda: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667232&pbp_id=2573989 . This week Buda faces Kingston in the game of the week. (Prediction - Buda by 7)

#5(5) - Banzai Pipeline 'Nites (1-0) - BPN had an easy week 1 matchup and took care of business. Picking a play of the game for a 255+ blowout is kind of silly, but for consistency's sake, here is my pick for play of the game: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667234&pbp_id=2580407 . BPN has always had great ST, and they start of Season 22 with a KO TD. Things get tougher this week, but the result should be the same. (Prediction - Banzai by 35)

#6 (7) - Kingston Uprising (1-0) - Much like BPN, these guys had an easy first game and took care of business. It's probably not fair to drop Amsterdam for losing a game I expected them to lose, but it is early and it will work itself out. Play of the Game: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667226&pbp_id=2582448 . This week Kingston gets a chance to prove they belong in the top 5 or to show that I may be over-ranking them based on APV. Should be a fun game to watch. (Prediction - Buda by 7)

#7 (8) - Hong Kong Voodoo (1-0) - Great win for this team over a solid Zeta squad. They won based on the strength of their ST unit, which scored 3 KO TDs, including this one which I am making their play of the game: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667229&pbp_id=2575098 . I picked that one, since it happened with less than 30 seconds in the half and without it, HK would almost certainly not have scored that possession. As I said in my pre-season write up, I will not be surprised if this team wins their way into the top 5. However, they will have to earn it. The guys in the top 5 now have a history of winning in the Pro level, while HKV is still a relatively new member of OPL. Next up for Hong Kong is the Big Heartless Bora Bora team. (Prediction - Hong Kong by a ton)

#8 (6) - Amsterdam Bulls (0-1) - They played top ranked SoCal relatively close, and I expected them to lose, so I am not going to drop them too far at this point. They were able to gain over 400 yards on So Cal, including this TD pass which was their play of the game: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667225&pbp_id=2582447 . They get an easy opponent this week (TCU) and should win easily. (Prediction - Amsterdam by a ton)

#9 (10) - Gold Coast Vipers (1-0) - Solid win for Gold Coast in Week 1. Of the three Zeta teams tied in the pre-season, I think GCV had the best result and thus get the nod at #9. They leapfrog GCMM because I would have expected GCMM to beat a CPU team more easily. This is the play of the game for GCV: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667236&pbp_id=2586244 as it started off a 37 point 2nd half. This week they face Oberon. (Prediction - Gold Coast by 40)

#10 (9) - Gold Coast Michelin Men (1-0) - I don't know about this pick. I am really surprised that GCMM did not beat Nerfed by more. We all know there are some odd sim results, so maybe this was one of those. If not, this may be the last week GCMM is in the top 10. Play of the game for GCMM: http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1667239&pbp_id=2583993 . That dude spun like a record on that play. This week GCMM faces another CPU team. (Prediction - GCMM by a ton)

The Rest

#11(10) - Prague Panthers (1-0)
#12 (10) - Kona Gold (0-1)
#13 (13) - Tampa Bay Puganeers (0-1)
#14 (14) - Komodo Dragon (1-0)
#15 (15) - Offtopica Miracle (1-0)
#16 (20) - Holland Pinoy All Star Jrs (1-0)
#17 (18) - South Bend Rhinocopters (0-1)
#18 (17) - SWAT City Vigilantes (1-0)
#19 (19) - San Diego Supa Chargers (1-0)
#20 (21) - Deadwood Mules(1-0)
#21 (16) - Oberon Bulls (0-1)
#22 (22) - Asylum Maulers (0-1)
#23 (31) - Nerfed Team
#24 (24) - Florida BeachDogZ
#25 (28) - All Good Things
#26 (25) - Bora Bora Bangaroos
#27 (23) - Compton Panthers
#28 (26) - TCU Super Frogs
#29 (27) - Guam Chamoros Rising Sun Devils
#30 (29) - San Diego Scorpions
#31 (30) - The Sacred Order Of The Crimson Dragon

These back to back sacks were pretty huge to knock us out of FG range and keep us from taking the lead

Thanks for doing these Plank!!

thanks again plank. I think Komodo is gonna surprise some people much like Kona did last season. The original team raised hell in SEAPL back in the day and i wouldn't expect anything different from them now.

oh and thank god for GCV returner stretch long, the man wins games on his own....and i'm very thankful since my offense sucks.

Thanks plank. I too was surprised at the score but after watching the game I feel like those CPU dots were firing off more SAs than most human teams with bad to questionable builds. I am fine with sneaking into the top ten and we hope to hang in there. GL to all.

GO GCMM!!!

Your top ten read is interesting - hope to see SWAT CITY there some day.

Interesting that we blew out the Crimson Dragon while South Bend lost, yet somehow we switched ranks. I guess that's where all the LOLs come from.

Before I say anything further, Welcome to OPL!

Crimson Dragon is really worse than a CPU team, since their players do not adjust to their opponents like CPUs do. Over half of their players are under level 60, and 1/4th are under level 50. A level 72 CPU >>> a lvl 50 player, no matter how well built the 50 is. That was shown when they first beefed up the CPUs and before they put in the level adjustment. And from the open builds, those are not well built players...http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=1691165 ... Thus, you beat a team that is worse than a CPU, and did so in the same fashion I would expect any decent team to do.

In contrast, South Bend kept it relatively competitive against a former WL team that I believe to be one of the best in OPL. That result surprised me, thus they got a small bump. I consider opponents when making rankings and have been right more often than not.

Don't fret though, you will get your shot to show if you belong in the top 10 when you play Banzai in Week 3. Beat them and you will sling shot into the Top 10.
