I've been having probably a good problem lately. My CB is getting plenty of play time 60 odd snaps a game, but he's almost always on the opposite side of the ground the QB passes.

In the last game there were just 2 passes to the man my CB was covering. Are there any tactics to increase your defensive output when a QB wont throw your way?

Can you for instance put more emphasis on getting to the HB?

Only if you wish to play the run, but that leaves you vulnerable to the pass.

Lets face it; If you're a good CB with good skills, more often than not you're gonna have a silent performance. Maybe one or two tackles, maybe a couple of deflections. The less your targeted reciever is thrown to, the better your day is, usually.

You can play further away from the receiver which will draw more throws. If you're a lot better than the QB or receiver, this could work, since you might be able to break for the ball before it arrives. You'll definitely get a lot more tackles, which is not a stat a CB wants. I don't recommend doing it though.

Forcing the QB to pass the other way IS good defensive output.

That said, if you really want to see some stats posted, just increase the distance you cover from. In particular, try medium distance/aggressive tactics against teams who pass deep a lot. You'll trick the QB into throwing your way more often, and if you're speedy enough and can see the passes coming, you should get a couple ints out of it.

Edit: Be warned that playing on medium distance you won't be able to make the deflection or interception every time though, and will settle for a lot of tackles, which will hurt your team overall. Especially against longer passers, where they'll be 10+ yard gains.

Ya dont get married to the stats, the less action the better. Qb's wont even look at your side. Which will allow your team to scheme around the fact they can leave you on an island, and rotate the coverage to the other side.
