SIA? Yes, Stoner is Awesome!

Guys, we need approximately 20-50 people who are willing to following every game (or at least most of them, seeing as a missed vote won't really hurt as long as some people are voting) rank all Gold League teams simply from 1-32 based on overall play in ranked scrimmages, tournaments, regular season, and eventually playoff and postseason scrimmage games (preseason to be ignored).

How will you vote?

Pretty simple you will visit a link (to be provided once enough interest is shown for me to spend the few minutes to code it up) in which there will be 32 numbers followed by drop down boxes with team names on them.

Also on this page will be (hopefully up to date) the script result from the ranking script as well as the teams ordered via playoff seeding rules to aide you in some of the tougher decisions.

Once you have your 32 teams decided you will insert a password (that I will assign you) into a box labeled as such and then press a little button that says "cast my vote" or something along those lines at the bottom of the page, and boom your done.

When will you be voting?
Well this is going to be pretty much completely dependent on when I get things together, since I'm not going to set a hardcore schedule for myself at the moment I'll go ahead and say that voting will open before 12:00AM (EST) the day of the games, and will close by 12:00AM (EST) the next day, and the results posted moments later.

That means we are a little too far behind schedule at the moment for this weeks rankings, but we will be trying to get this done for next week, thus sign-up to be a part of the coaches poll on the "SIA" rankings will close at around 12:00AM (EST) tomorrow (after the games).

If you are interested just go ahead and post here and I will contact you with your password to vote with as soon as I get things coded up (which I will do as soon as I get probably around 20 people interested, not including myself).



How will the rankings work?
You will have 3 values the values are:
x=Your ranking in the Coaches Poll I've described above.
y=Your ranking in the greasemonkey script.
z=Your ranking in the teams when ordered by playoff seeding rules

Another variable will be the % of people who are registered to vote who do actually vote.
This value will be represented by w below and will range from .01 to 1.00

Your "SIA" value will then be:
1.5xw+y+z = "SIA"

Teams will then be listed in order of their "SIA" which hopefully will be the most accurate rankings GLB has ever seen.

I'm in too, but I have two questions. Which greasemonkey script will we be using as that portion of the rankings, the current script or one of the ones we thought of in the other thread? Also, when you say playoff seeding, how do you compare teams between conferences? Will they just alternate like #1 east is #1 and #1 west is #2 or will you sort all the teams by record and then use tiebreakers to create an overall standing?

Going to take a lot more than 4 people though to make this even remotely possible.

In, a lot will do it. I had something similar a while back and none posted on the message board but I had about 16 or so submitting top 20 rankings. I can pm all owners this weekend and get more involved.

If this game weren't as nerdy as it is I'd just set it up to not allow multiple IP votes, but we all know someone would jimmy that system just to ruin my rankings.

To be honest, this is a LOT of work each and every season and I just don't see it happening or if it does, wont happen for many seasons.

I just think it's simpler if we create a really good greesemonkey script and spend some time tweaking it. Remember that if we rank teams, that is very subjective. Instead, if we come up with a system that uses different stats in a well thought out way, that would be far less subjective than a poll and is something that can be used for many seasons.

I think it can work but I would say that you may need to cut the number down from 32. Maybe just have people rank their top 15 or 20. That would save some time. 32 seems like a lot.

Your just completely wrong, it is a hell of a lot easier for me to do this (very very simple) where as writing the script or anything of that nature would not only not be as accurate as we'd want it to be, but would take as much if not more time initially.

Glad you, knowing nothing about it.... can tell me which is easier though.

It takes 5 seconds to put a little number besides 32 teams....
