The BBB#7 Power Rankings are back for season 3, and the anticipation for meaningless rankings has been off the charts. Of course, no chart is kept, so the anticipation was never on a chart, but that is beside the point.
There have been some changes to the formula since last season, a major math error has been eliminated, and a new category added for quality of win, I’m sure there are still some kinks to work out, but hey its not like you are paying for these.
The major components of the rankings are as follows:
Strength of Schedule (SOS): The winning percentage of your opponents to date.
Quality of Wins (QW): Bonus points are awarded for every win based on the opponents winning percentage. So if you beat a winless team, you get nothing, if you beat a previously undefeated team, big bonus.
Offensive Points Over Average (OPOA): If you opponent averages 14 points against and you score 17, you get +3 in the ranking.
Defensive Points Under Average (DPUA): If your opponent averages 21 points scored and you allow 14 you get +7 in the ranking.
Here are the rankings after 6 weeks, feel free to comment below on how your team has been slighted, since my company now blocks this site, I probably won’t read your complaint anyway.
Contenders
#1 – Oakland Nation (6-0, rank 27.50)
The undefeated Nation leads off this seasons rankings in the number 1 position riding the best offensive points over average (OPOA) and Defensive points under average (DPUA) in BBB#7. This makes up for a pedestrian strength of schedule to date. This week the Nation travels to Caerbannog (where ever that is) to face a Rabbits squad that has struggled out of the gate.
#2 - Atlanta Purple Penguins (6-0, rank 26.51)
The Purple Penguins come in at #2 this week, due to the best quality win # thanks to their win last week vs. Lincoln. Things get no easier this week as they face off vs. a tough Las Vegas squad.
#3 – Niagara Rapids (5-1, rank 25.35)
It didn’t take long to get to our 1st surprise, and that’s Niagara beating out a number of undefeated squads for the #3 spot. It’s a combination of strength of schedule (SOS), and DUPA that vault them over the competition. This week Niagara gets a warm up vs. River City before next week’s showdown with the Penguins.
#4 - Louisville Baby Kittens (6-0, rank 24.82)
The Kittens have made meow-mix of the competition so far this season, but to be honest the teams they have faced were about as intimidating as a ball of yarn (Ok that’s not fair to Houston & Red Bank, but you try writing this BS every other day). The State of Texas Domination is up next, and will provide the Kittens their toughest challenge to date.
#5 – Austin Alcoholics (6-0, rank 23.49)
Rounding out the top 5 is Austin A, the final of the undefeated in BBB#7. Austin has dispatched everyone they have faced to date in a cold-bloodedly efficient, if not spectacular manner. Continuing their winning ways vs. The Visalia Paraplegics won’t impress the spreadsheet, but it’s the wins & losses that count anyway.
2nd tier
#6 - Lincoln Freedom Warriors (5-1, rank 23.22)
#3 ranked in DPUA and only 1 loss to #2 Atlanta PP.
#7 - Texas Tarheels (3-3, rank 22.06)
3 and 3 and in the top 10? Losses to two top 5 teams, and running up the score on the Aztecs get them some love from the spreadsheet.
#8 Austin Breakers (5-1, rank 17.82)
Solid wins, but no blowouts or shutouts hurt them in the rankings.
#9 Anchorage Vikings (5-1, rank 17.71)
Solid team, but lack of wins over top competition hurts them
#10 Appalachian Lycans (4-2, rank 15.74)
Only 1 win vs. an opponent with more than 1 win, puts the Lycans @ #10.
Need to turn it up a notch
#11 Houston Armageddon (2-3-1, rank 15.15)
#12 Las Vegas Outlaws (4-2, rank 10.01)
#13 The State of Texas Domination (3-3, rank 9.92)
#14 Red Bank Thundercats (3-3, rank 9.21)
#15 DFL Gods (4-2, rank 9.13)
#16 Big Money Dynasty (2-4, rank 8.63)
Any Boosts Left?
#17 Mailbu Mels (2-4, rank 7.42)
#18 Charlotte Panthers (3-3, rank 6.99)
#19 Texas Two-Step (4-2, rank 5.99)
#20 Atlanta Ducks (1-5, rank 5.99)
#21 Chicago Whodat’s (3-3, rank 5.90)
#22 Saginaw Spirit (2-4, rank 4.99)
Know How Javon Walker Feels
#23 The Killer Rabbits of Caerbannog (1-5, rank 4.51)
#24 LA Chupacabras (2-4, rank 4.47)
#25 Visalia Paraplegics (3-3, rank 3.65)
#26 Jax Beach Juggernauts (1-4-1, rank 2.68)
#27 Cleveland Buckeyes (1-5, rank –1.69)
#28 The River City Ransom (1-5, rank –4.68)
Lucky there is no regulation
#29 South Bend ShamRockers (1-5, rank –6.54)
#30 Fresno Anarchs (1-5, rank –7.63)
#31 San Diego Aztecs (0-6, rank –23.29)
#32 Richmond Empire (0-6, rank –29.00)
