I know they block them sometimes... does it help or is it worth it?

Pass Deflections from the DT position are excellent and it is well worth making sure you have a build that can get them on occassion.

However, you should not waste AEQ or VAs on this pursuit.

I think towering man might be worth trying as a 4th VA if you build an appropriate DT for it

You'd be the first to make it seem worthwhile....

It is worthwhile if you build correctly

News to me.

(pointing to an example of a player built with Towering Man who uses it well would be the thing to do here)

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=668241 - looks good on the last 2 season, until you see that over 1/2 came in huge blowout games. Was getting about 8 PD per 12 non blowout games. But he also had 50 jumping and was getting some PD in non blowout games before he added more jumping and towering man the last 2 seasons.

I don't really think it was worth it, but considering the lack of sacks DTs get, 5-6 extra PDs per season is something. But how much does it take away from the rest of his game?

Uhhh...how did he end up with so many VAs? Holy Crap!

If he doesn't get sacks, then how can it actually take away from something ? Do you mean the running game?

He was well past level 40 when VAs were added to game. Bort tried to some formula that guestimated how many VAs older players should have. The older players all ended up with more VAs than a new player could get.

the running game and drawing more blockers in. Right now the biggest impact DTs have in the passing game is drawing extra blockers to make sure DEs are blocked 1 on 1.

An old DT I had at the end of his career I added towering man and jumping, look at his last two seasons

http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=506404

Since I had this much success with my previous DT im working on two DT's to focus on that now, just started adding the attributes & VA's to get PD's for these two and im having some success

It looks like you racked up PDs in lopsided games...which doesn't really matter much (to me at least).

By contrast, here is a DT that would appear to be marginally to greatly better in most ways (including a few more inches of height, which is critical for PDs):
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=694941

And when I had 40% pass deflection gear, Towering Man, and 2 mentors, he still failed to be meaningful as a PD machine at high levels of the game in competitive matches.

In the meantime, a DT known to those who follow the game as one of the very greatest of his generation:
http://goallineblitz.com/game/player.pl?player_id=531433

Led the WL in PDs from the DT position several times...and he used no Pass Defl% gear or Towering Man.

So, while builds matter and I agree that PDs are achievable and worth getting...I have yet to see Towering Man or Deflect gear make much of an impact.

That doesn't mean it can't work...might just need better builds than have been used in the past.

Guy, its not the perfect example but it shows the difference between with and without. Just trying something new and my old DT sparked an idea to try it with two DT's in the middle. Yes, 60 came from mostly blow outs but you also get 1 or 2 in close games, which for a DT is more effect than usual.
