I'm building a possession WR for my first build. My goal is to build a dot that is money on 3rd downs and in the red zone. I'm looking at maxing Jumping first. I've been told this is a bit of unorthodox thinking. Has anyone tried this? If so was it at all successful long term or should I scrap him before I waste Flex points?

do it man.
Experiements are NEVER a waste of flex.

And jumping is your best bet as that is the roll you need to beat CB's on, catching is still not very important, as long as it's past 75 you'll be catching almost everything, especially if you can negate the PD roll with high jumping.

Strength would be important in such a build to help you fight for position as you won't ever have much seperation, getting speed past 110 with EQ would be necessary, if you could pass 120, that'd be better and not especially difficult if you can just get speed to 65 or so end build and put all EQ in speed.

Do it dude... ever possesion build I've seen has started with catching which is pants on head retarded IMO as that won't help possesion WR's win the roll they are aiming to win at all.
You could even pick up hurdle and see if you could maybe break a couple tackles on the way too.

I would cap everything at 68 after taking jumping up to where you wanted it... a lot of attributes to cap and you won't need much of anything past 75 except for jumping.

I thought that was how jumping worked, but I wasn't 100% sure. It seems like it would work.

You think strength and speed over agility? I was thinking agility, then strength, then carry, then catching, then speed.

Join a builds forum. Most of the good guys to give advice seldom check these threads as there are so many people asking similar questions in the builds forum they are a part of.

are there any good WR forums??
I'm part of build forums for other positions, but would be nice to be part of a WR forum so I could post a bunch of replays of my Power WR mercing on defenseless CB's and Safeties.

Id like to see those regardless, and maybe even what your power WR's build looks like. Im working on one of my own atm, some good tips would be nice. but the forum I run is pretty broad, but has lots of good agents from all over who get quite specific, despite the broad nature of the forum.

All of these are from this preseason. It's his first time being on a team that actually uses him, but this is also his first season with catching near where i want it.
I won't share the build, but I will say that it would be impossible to re-make this build. I started him with the old WR ALG's, which were ironically pretty good for making a power WR. minors were Confidence and Carrying, both gained .5 ALG's. So I started with Carrying and capped confidence early and let the ALG's go to work, then did Speed, Agility, almost done with Catching now, wish I could have redone it knowing what I know now and with multitraining available. But it's not.

Obviously Power Through is my bonus SA... only 1 point in Spin so far, but it fires a lot, end build will be 8 spin, if I could have redone it I would have definitely added fakes into his build as he has the attributes for it, but at the time i didn't really think of it. He's used in mainly screens, and there were a bunch of replays of him breaking one tackel off the screen and making it for 10-12 yards, but I didn't post all of those, pretty boring to watch, only posted a few.

agility is a distant 5th in a possession build. i would go jump and speed as the first to stats, i'm doing that with my young gun now, then catch then carry then strength. agility will be multi-trained and eventually to 68 with Quick Cut to supplement. once upon a time i though Agility was very important - my current WR originally had 120 incl EQ and Jump at 100 incl. EQ with speed at 80 raw. he performed badly post season 17 and i've rearranged EQ again and again to get something out of this guy. he now has 80 natural agility without QC and that's about the 'sweetspot' i'd look to in the current SIM.

ignore speed at your peril

I'm glad I came back and read this because I was about to buy equipment. I think I will put all EQ into speed. I'm still learning the game so I tend to look at things from the point of view of real football and when you look at someone like Jerry Rice, he had way more agility then speed, and we all know how that turned out. It's good to know that it doesn't translate here.

This is one of the most important aspects of dotball, took me nearly a year to grasp.

GLB dot building punishes anything that isn't orthodox, i'm afraid. Strength linemen and Speed everywhere else, excl K, P and QB. it's a crying shame that GLB has been reduced to 2 stats

This is dead wrong, don't ever get cynical like this.
If everyone is building one way, then take advantage of the attributes they neglect.

shouldn't 120 agility and 100 jump with 8 Juke and RR not take advantage of neglected CB attirbutes? or the 150 agility DT with 35% BB and 10 SB and 8 FS should have done something against the pass? perhaps a potential PB with 150 strength and 90 carry but 77 speed should break continuous tackles until he falls after 3 yards?

these are all perhaps perhaps perhaps. GLB has killed many of the players i built with a twist. i've had to convert my possession WR, agility DT and powerback to orthodox speed first WR, strength first DT and all EQ into speed RB.

cynical? i appreciate your input in the forums MHS and you are one of the agents i admire from a distance. but i've spent more than enough money on this game to see how shallow dot building has become

Well, not all experimental builds have merit in this sim.
But finding the next big thing, or figuring out what the flavor of the sim will be in 5-6 seasons is a lot of fun IMO.

Some of my experimental builds that I had a lot of hopes riding on have done next to nothing.
Some of my experimental builds that I had written off are producing way more than i ever expected.

My high agi, Vis, Car fake WR is doing much better than i expected him to do, along with my power WR... both of whom languished when I thought they would be doing well.

I believe that possesion WR's still need tweaking before we find out what works.
120 Agi, might be too much, but 95 Agi, 85 Jumping, 130 speed, 10 RR, 8 Juke might be a force to be reckoned with.

But I'll wait a couple more seasons before i start.
