1.Oklahoma City Spartans 6-0-0
Last week: 1 High: 1 Low:1
The Spartans continue to show dominance with a 42-10 victory over highly ranked Fresno. Extremely well balanced attack that can hurt you in so many different ways combined with a suffocating defence keeps the Spartans as the championship favourite. Fresno did manage to put up the most points on them thus far however. Maybe OKC should start giving points to make it more competitive.
2. Los Angeles Reign 6-0-0
Last week: 2 High:2 Low:6
Laid a typical LA Reign beatdown shutout on Bay Area but gave up some yards. Would’ve been closer if not for a big five..count em…five INTs. Next week’s showdown with the C.S Flyers will likely keep the Reign undefeated and keep us all poised for the LA vs OKC showdown.
3. Fresno Fire 5-1-0
Last week: 3 High:3 Low:7
Put up 10 against the Spartans and some decent offense but their defence was simply overwhelmed. Fresno is a gritty team that does everything well but nothing spectacular. They continue to grind though. Upcoming matchup against the Voodoo is likely a game of the week contender.
4. Little Haiti Voodoo 4-2-0
Last week: 4 High:4 Low:10
Played a tough game against South Otto but came out on top. Big INT returned for a touchdown by Bennie McMurphy gives the Voodoo a big win over an always tough opponent. Next week’s game against the Fire should be epic.
5. Over The Rhine Red Dots 4-2-0
Last week:9 High: 3 Low:9
OTR should ask me to argue with their GMs every week. Completely dominated a very good team in the Florida Bulls and finally got a W against a legit contender. Canton Cannon put up almost 400 yards in the air and an unheralded OTR defence contained the dangerous Bulls offense. The league should watch out… I think OTR is back…and they might be pissed.
6. San Jose Chupacabra 4-2-0
Last week: 7 High:6 Low:13
Make it four in a row for the Chupacabra. Dominant performance against Colorado and yet another defensive gem. Just 88 yards put up by the Flyers. The offense of San Jose seems to have woken up and that combined with a very dangerous defence makes the Chupacabra a threat for anyone. Big game next week against Reno will have definite playoff implications.
7. Reno Marauders 4-2-0
Last week: 5 High: 2 Low:7
Won against Boston but their defence gave up more than the 7 on the scoreboard. They drop a few spots simply due to the quality of opponent and their specific performance. An impressive win against San Jose next week would likely pop them back into the top 5.
8. South Otto Fragile Porcelain Mice 3-3-0
Last week: 8 High: 6 Low:9
Very tough game against the Voodoo but ended up on the wrong end of the stick for the second straight week. The Mice still have a very tough squad that can run with anyone south of the Spartans. Face a third rough game in a row versus OTR next week.
9. Florida Bulls 3-3-0
Last week: 6 High: 5 Low:9
Florida continues to bounce between big wins and big losses. In an anticipated shootout, the Bulls ran out of ammo, recording just 131 yards in the air. WR Drill Bit Taylor continues to lead the league in receiving yardage but can seemingly disappear at inconvenient moments.
10. Vallonia BeaverHunters 2-4-0
Last week: 12 High: 12 Low:16
Sure…it was a win against the Outlaws…but Vallonia will take ‘em however they can get ‘em. Improved performances may be a sign that this team has sorted themselves out and is on their way up.
11 . Bay Area Bastards 2-4-0
Last week: 11 High: 10 Low:12
As expected, the Bastards were laid low by the LA Reign. They managed a respectable performance in the loss though. A lot of the pieces are there and if the Bastards can retain their core for next year, they’ll be a turnaround team.
12. Colorado Springs Flyers 2-4-0
Last week: 10 High: 3 Low:12
Got wrecked by the Chupacabra. QB Rock Thunderarm is finally getting protected a bit better but could not get off the ground against a strong San Jose defence. Disappointing season thus far for one of the better teams last year.
13. Minden Musketeers 1-5-0
Last week: 13 High: 13 Low:15
Minden wins…Minden wins!!! For those of you keeping track at home, I believe this makes it Minden’s second victory in their existence. They put up a bunch of yards in the air but will need to find a running game in the offseason to really turn around their team. The Musketeers play Bay Area next week in a potentially winnable game.
14. Boston Boogie Monsters 1-5-0
Last week: 14 High: 12 Low:16
The 37-7 loss to Reno wasn’t as bad on paper as it was on the scoreboard. The Monsters are very weak at some positions but still have an excellent chance at getting win number two against the Outlaws next week.
15. Minnesota Americans 1-5-0
Last week: 15 High: 10 Low:15
It’s a good thing that one of their best players is their punter. He gets a lot of playing time. They enter a brutal four game stretch that I’ll be surprised if they total more than 14 points.
16. Oklahoma City Outlaws 0-6-0
Last week:16 High:8 Low:16
The Outlaws continue find new and innovative ways to lose games. Of their first 6 games, 4 have been against solid teams however. Not to worry Outlaws…you do, after all, play Minnesota at some point.
