Link

i was suggesting an idea about building a power QB for inside rushing with about 100 strength. i posted my idea and was told that the strength of the rusher is halved once passed the LOS. so basically this experimental QB will have 50 strength when carrying the rock and not 100.

can anyone verify this with proof and links? i just find this hard to believe

About midway down from March 9, 2010 Q&A

Question Do QBs always have Strength and Carrying cut in half when they are behind the line, no matter if it is a designed run play or if it is a pass play?
Answer Just when in "pass" mode on a pass play

thanks to dss02 who supplied the link in a private forum. best i shared answers that i found and i hope it is of some use

Bort makes the game and hes the one that confirmed it, good luck getting a reason out of him.

The reason is because at the time, QBs were able to break tackles and be billy badass. So instead of fixing the sim, he put a bandaid on it. The bandaid has not yet fallen off.

it's so that when the QB is in "pass" mode they don't break sacks left and right. It's to account for them having the ball up and looking downfield. You're less likely to break a tackle standing up straight looking down field with the ball at your shoulder then you are when the ball is tucked and you are bracing for each tackle.
As soon as you tuck the ball all of your stats go back to normal, regardless of if you're behind the LOS or not.

This isn't hard to understand at all and was done a loooonnnnggg time ago.

It makes perfect sense, breaking tackles is a lot harder when you're off balance and looking upfield then when you have the ball tucked and are bracing for it. Lol just read the quote.
