I'm going to start building a couple dots on the last day of this season, and I'd like to make one of them a QB.

I noticed that the builds for most QBs have STR and THR pumped way up (obviously), with Vision leveled next, and Confidence lower than that.

So why would anyone want to choose the Pocket Passer archetype, that levels Confidence over STR? Is there any advantage that that?

pocket passer has better favored SAs. it really doesn't matter much though if you build efficiently.

high confidence ( 78-81) helps you throw better, IMO it's an extension of pass quality like the tight spiral SA and the pass quality AEQ

except you could argue strength has the same effect on pass quality as the stronger you are the less you are penalized for distance and speed.

the relative importance of STR v CON has been argued over for about 20 seasons

what is more interesting now is whether VIS is still no2, given the QR SA

Roll up a piece of paper and throw it at a bin. If you have a good throw it goes in, right? In fact, if the bin is big enough and close enough you should get it in almost all of the time. Training your throwing accuracy will not increase that by much at all. All that will happen is that your throws will be closer to the center of the bin.

To summarise: Throwing is the most important to start with, but once it gets into the 70s and 80s, your QB should be hitting what he's aiming at, end of.

Vision, on the other hand...

This is the skill that decides who the QB throws it to, weighing up which players are open, or about to become open, whether it is likely to be intercepted, whether the receiver can do anything with it after the catch, and judges when the pocket is collapsing and when to throw so as not to be sacked. The value of this sort of skill at higher level is huge.

TL;DR - Why throw balls through the eye of a needle to players who are going to be fucked over the moment they make the catch?

I'm currently building a deep passer that will end the build at around 150 throwing, 100 strength and less than 68 confidence. We'll see how that goes... Heh.

I like the fact that you have some reasoning behind your thought, but it turns out that really high throwing (and the corresponding accuracy and pass quality) is far and away the most important thing. Nothing else comes close.

Should be perfectly fine. Although, I think I'd rather have 160 throwing/90 strength than 150 throwing/100 strength.

Well, it'll probably be along the lines of 157 throwing and 90+ strength with 3 AEQ actually. Was just throwing out rough numbers. Throwing will be 102 natural and if I don't put another point into strength (at 78 currently) it will end at 90 natural. I believe I'll go up to 81 if not 87, though it will cost me dearly in every attribute except vision if I go to 87.


Also, interesting sidenote I just learned from spamming "Next Day" on the VPB (To see where throwing/strength will end at on my QB)....

If you train an attribute from 8 to 49, it takes you approximately 7 seasons on light training.
(49 punting FTW in my case)
