Week 1 Predictions
Usual disclaimer: this is my opinion only. If you don’t like it, I still love you.
Welcome to really bad movie week, honoring the worst movies ever made. It's time for the regular season once again.
Predicted Inter-Conference Results
Naga: 13
lolgaruda: 3
Inter-Conference
Game Of The Week
Semarang Red Bulls (1155) v Wu Dang Kung Fu Academy (1111)
Right off the bat the rubber meets the road for the Kung Fu gang. Will they be formidable opponents or just Pocket Ninjas? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=glc-whmDf7A One things for certain, Semarang is still big time and is a good measuring stick for anyone who plays them. Both teams have looked excellent in the preseason and could possibly even see each other again week 20. Semarang 40, Wu 27
Other Games
Dayton Blackhawks (1057) v New York Empire (1112)
CMM, err Dayton meets another veteran SEA team in the form of NYE. NYE seems to have several advantages other than APV, like a recently successful season, but it’s a clean slate and everyone starts anew. Will this season shine like Glitter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QaKxGrajnzY for Dayton or will NYE start off another solid season with a win? NYE 35, Dayton 17
Hong Kong Hustlers (1089) v Atlantic Great Whites (1019)
HKH looks like they’re on their way to another solid season while AGW looks like they could be in some trouble if the preseason is any indication. Fortuately for them they play in lolgaruda. Which coordinators look like Baby Geniuses http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYQbO20MUOE in this one and which miss the boat? HKH 42, AGW 17
Tibetan Drunk Monks (943) v Halifax Harpoons (1050)
The “other” Monks face another rookie SEAPL team in Halifax where one of them picks up their first win in their first SEAPL game. That is fortunate for the winner because neither looks terribly likely to get many wins after that. This could be a little big like watching Gigli http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4-7iv6-8BRw late at night by yourself as I’m sure you’ve all done, but hey it could surprise and be a good one. TDM 30, HH 27
Sainte Foy Cyclones (1042) v Boston Bears (1071)
These are two likely playoffs teams this season but probably neither will be a title threat. At any rate, this should be a pretty good chance to pick up a quality win early on in the season. It could be Another Nine and a Half Weeks http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QAMalKc405w before we know exactly how good these two teams will be. SFC 30, Boston 24
Dayton Raiders (1049) v Krakow Kryptonite (1042)
While these two teams have a very similar APV, they looked very different in the preseason. Krakow looks to continue after a pretty good rookie SEAPL season last time and Dayton somehow got promoted after losing their last three games in AAA. Not so much an Alien from LA http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-SclSgWSa4 as from AAA. At any rate they have a chance to make their mark early by taking out a probably lolgaruda playoff team, but will they? Krakow 35, Dayton 16
Royal Blue Drunken Smurfs of Funkalicious Labatt (961) v Tanzania Lumberjacks (1024)
Blue just came back from a solid multi-season WL run and has now reloaded with young talent that should peak in a few seasons. TL is a rookie SEAPL team looking to show they’ve got what it takes early on. Both teams will have the main goal of trying to avoid relegation for this season. It’s a good thing they’ve got those Phat Girlz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LKSkVQdu3uc for cheerleaders at least. Blue 20, TL 17
Portland Dirty Penguins (1056) v Mandalay King Cobras (1031)
PDP, the last original season 1 SEAPL team, looks to be a lower tier playoff team this season as the current number 2 team in the Royal Family. MKC also looks like a lower tier playoff team, in lolgaruda. It’s another one of those games on the list where both squad have a shot to pick up an early quality win. Which will be Cool as Ice http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=faXR_eYLyZI to start the season? PDP 35, Mandalay 21
The Outlaw Hustlers (1059) v Mandunum Ad CPU
TOH looks like an “ok” team but since they play in Naga that likely means sitting home for the playoffs. They’ll get off to a pretty good start against lolgaruda’s first CPU representative of the season. Why would a pro league ever start the season with a CPU team? Makes no sense. Then again, Leonard Part 6 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D-cKPajCEw8 also made no sense. TOH 180, CPU 0
Krungthep Garuda (1133) v Island of Misfit Toys (1055)
Legendary SEAPL team Krungthep is back and usually that means they’re just looking for another trophy before heading back to the WL. It won’t be quite as easy this time, but it starts out with a team in IMT that is probably not up to the challenge. IMT looks like they have the horses to compete for a lower tier playoff spot in lolgaruda but they’ve looked less than stellar so far. Look for fool and co. to jack them up like Ice Pirates http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-YZ8WOU1-w Krungthep 75, IMT 13
Golden Hill Bones (1056) v Buffalo Knights (1081)
This should actually be a pretty good game between two likely playoff teams. Bones looks like they’re serious this season. You never know about Buffalo. You might confuse them with HHWC one week and a AA team the next. One thing is pretty certain and that this is likely to be better than Dungeons and Dragons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efSq9FF1r2Q but that’s not exactly going out on a limb. GHB 27, Buffalo 20
Woody Island Wolverines (1091) v Chaotic Crew (1061)
WW pretended they weren’t going to make the playoffs the first half of last season before going on a huge run. I don’t think they’ll be so dramatic this season. Rookie SEAPL team CC is likely to find the sledding very tough early on with this matchup. Their only chance is if they can somehow transform into The Pumaman http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMJaSK3Tv3c for one game. WW 45, CC 20
Benton Harbor Havoc (992) v Buffalo Rampage (1077)
While BHH lacks the roster strength to compete in Naga this season, they’ll give some teams a load of stress when they play them. I don’t think SEAPL stalwart Buffalo is one of those teams though as they’re really just too solid to lose this one. Maybe if Benton recruits The Blade Master http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AkexRpqbbRU right before the game starts they could shock Buffalo. I do think BHH keeps things interested for a while before falling by the wayside. Buffalo 40, BHH 27
Palembang Drunken Monks (1133) v Phu Khao Bow Chicka Brown Cows (1079)
This is a nasty week 1 matchup that probably neither team wanted to see. It’ll be a great win for someone though. Unfortunately it’s one of those deals where they just had to play each other the final week of preseason, where I’m sure neither team showed anything they’ll actually do. I do know PDM is going to watch out for Udderly Ridiculous Skills--boy is a sick returner. Will see which team busts out like Krull http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndpV6qfQJVw this time. Monks 35, Cows 24
Victoria Teabaggers (1087) v Awendaw Toadfish (1020)
VT looks like they came to play in the big dance and should be a nice season in a very tough conference. Welcome back to the Toadfish after a long SEA hiatus. I’m not sure if they’re still under the same ownership, I can’t remember that far back... Anyway, the return is likely to start out in an unpleasant manner having to see VT right off the bat. This could be a case of The Hottie and the Nottie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KSHzVMhrqK4 VT 42, Awendaw 13
Orlando Praying Mantis (1067) v Praha Velvet Revolution (988)
I’m guessing it’s going to be a long season for both of these teams, so it’s nice for one of them to start out with a win. Just based on roster strenght, OPM likely has the upper hand here, but there’s not a whole lot to go on, so I won’t be Going Overboard http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKNZqnJ0hzU with my pick. OPM 24, Praha 21
