PEERLESS PURPLE PENGUIN PROGNOSTICATIONS (PPPP): WEEK SIX!!!

Season Results: 19-4-1
Last week’s results: 7-0-1
Saginaw at South Bend Prediction: SAG 24-10 Actual:SAG 30-19
Richmond at Atlanta Prediction: ATL 63-0 Actual: ATL 92-0
Lincoln at Baton Rouge Prediction: LIN 33-9 Actual: LIN 40-13
Texas at Jax Beach Prediction: JAX 16-10 Actual: Tie 20-20
Cleveland at Charlotte Prediction: CHR 10-6 Actual: CHR 23-3
Appalachian at Red Bank Prediction: APP 23-13 Actual:APP 20-9
Louisville at Houston Prediction: LOU 27-23 Actual: LOU 21-20
Las Vegas at Niagara Prediction: NIA 34-23 Actual: NIA 37-9

Take a look at the game between Lousiville and Houston. It was a classic! At halftime, Houston leads 10-7. Lousiville goes on a 54 yard, 7 minute, 16 play drive in the 3rd , manhandling the Armageddon to make it 14-10. Houston answers with a FG to make it 14-13 with just over 10 minutes to play in the game and we’re set for a classic finish. Houston turns the table on Lousiville, going on a 16 play 7-plus minute drive of their own to take the lead 20-14 with only 1:58 remaining. Houston must have been feeling pretty good, but it didn’t last long. On the first play from scriimmage after the kickoff, Kamikaze Kitten passes to Kyle Kortnue over the middle for a 56.5 yd TD! Houston couldn’t generate enough offense to get back into FG range, stalling at the Lousiville 44.5. What a game!!!

Also, a Pretty good week for the old Penguin Prognosticator! Didn’t miss a single game (although the Jax-Tex matchup was a tie). But rather than Pridefully Posturing Perched uPon the Parade of Platitudes and the Pulse Pounding Pandemonium Perpetrated uPon the Peerless Prognosticator by the Purple Penguin Population for his Predictive Powers and Pointed Perspectives (Guess what my favorite letter is this week?), I shall get right back to work. Gonna be hard to top that record, but here goes:

(8) Louisville Baby Kittens (5-0) at Cleveland Buckeyes (1-4)-----Louisville got taken to the wire by Houston in a game that must have given both coaches heart attacks. This game should prove a bit less nerve-wracking. Cleveland is only scoring 5.2 ppg and Louisville only allows 9.6—gonna be tough sledding for the Buckeyes this week. The Baby Kittens defense should be enough to secure the win, keeping the folks in Louisville unfamiliar with the word “defeat” for another week………LOUISVILLE-42 CLEVELAND-0

(7) Baton Rouge Bayou Bengals (1-4) at Las Vegas Outlaws (3-2)-----Las Vegas is only 3-2 but their two losses were to the undefeated Lincoln Freedom Warriors and the 4-1 Niagara Rapids. This is a VERY good ball club that features Rikky Danner who’s already halfway to 1000 yds and is the top rusher in the Conference by far. The Vegas weakness has to be their tendency to throw interceptions, but against the Bengals, the Outlaws should have their running game clicking and won’t need to throw the ball to catch up. I expect a methodical but dominant performance from Las Vegas as they move to 4-2……..LAS VEGAS-31 BATON ROUGE-9

(6) Jax Beach Juggernauts (1-3-1) at Appalachian Lycans (3-2)-----Jax Beach showed me a lot by drawing with the Texas Domination, but Appalachian is a whole different ball of wax. Billy Grigstar (Lvl 21; NT) and Big Briggs (Lvl 20; MLB) love to put pressure up the middle in Appalachian’s aggressive blitzing scheme, and Jax Beach’s OL is weak in the center with Level 13’s at C and both OGs. Baaaaad news for the Juggernauts--I’m afraid it’s another lopsided game up in mountain country……..APPALACHIAN-36 JAX BEACH-3

(5) South Bend (0-5) at Richmond (0-5)----- Why is this game ranked the #5 game of the week? Well, despite the relative futility of the two teams, at least it’s relatively evenly matched. South Bend and Richmond will battle for the right to emerge from the cellar of the Conference. However, based on past performance, it will be South Bend Battling, and Richmond Rolling over. (I guess this must be Alliteration Week or something….) The ShamRockers take the win, and hope this reverses their fortunes for the rest of the season……..SOUTH BEND-28 RICHMOND-13

(4) Houston Armageddon (2-3) at Niagara Rapids (4-1)-----Houston has really drawn scheduling hell with its opponents’ cumulative record for the first 5 weeks at 21-8-1 or a 0.717 winning percentage. This is a much better team than the record indicates, but now they face the Rapids who dispatched another very good team, the Outlaws, in embarrassing fashion. Houston’s going to be a factor, but like we said last week, not quite yet……..NIAGARA-34 HOUSTON-21

(3) Charlotte Panthers (3-2) at The State of Texas Domination (2-2-1)-----Charlotte has had an impressive start to the season, but has stacked up those wins against teams with inferior records. The opponents winning percentage for the Panthers excluding the Louisville club is 0.300. I think the Panthers get a dose of reality here against a Texas club that is hungry for a victory after last week’s disappointing tie against Jax Beach. The State of Texas lives up to its nickname in a game not as close as you might expect…….TEXAS-34 CHARLOTTE-10

(2) Red Bank Thundercats (2-3) at Saginaw Spirit (2-3)-----This would be the game of the week if it weren’t for Atlanta-Lincoln. Both these teams have made significant improvements in the off season and both have had some degree of success. The loser here will have 4 losses and, considering that it’s almost certain that a 0.500 record will be necessary to make the playoffs, will need to go 10-4 to finish the season---a difficult task since both have at last 2 of the currently undefeated teams left to play. It’s not a MUST WIN, but it’s an important game not only from the standpoint of overall record, but in the event of a tiebreaker at the end of the season. Saginaw is a very talented team with Chamistry problems, Red Bank counters with good chemistry but an overall weaker ballclub. I expect both coaches to pull out all the stops on this one and a terrific, terrific close game that goes to……..SAGINAW-24 RED BANK-20

(1) GAME OF THE WEEK: Atlanta Purple Penguins (5-0) at Lincoln Freedom Warriors (5-0)----- Well, here it is! The Game of the Century----at least for this week! Two undefeated powerhouses, one of which is my own team and the other of which I have underestimated not just once, but twice!!! Not gonna happen this week. I have tremendous respect for the Freedom Warriors and what they’ve accomplished. I admire the optimistic positive attitude and confidence their team displays. And I REALLY don’t want to get drop-kicked in the head by Husker Nation! Having said all that, the Purple Penguins Defense is turning into the Purple People Eaters. They are allowing only 5 yards PER GAME rushing and lead the league in passing yds allowed by nearly 50 ypg! If Atlanta can avoid turnovers, especially interceptions to the outstanding Lincoln CBs (and I agree with you, Husker Nation, I don’t know how BOTH Frank Fantastic and Head Shot got left out of All-Conference honors last year) then the Purple Penguin Population should be Pleased. My Prediction (covers head):…….ATLANTA-24 LINCOLN-17

OK, the Predictions are now official! We’ll see how things go this week! Looking forward to Brick’s Power Rankings coming out after the games. Some of you have requested that I continue doing these, and I would love to, but I have vacation coming up (which should make Niagara very happy since I’ll have to go with a more generic game plan) so if I do resume, it’ll probably be in a week or so!

Thanks for reading!!!

Frank Fantastic only played the last half of the season last year, which is probably why he got left out. Good luck this week though. Should be one hell of a battle.

Did Head Shot get 1st team? My memory must be failing me, but if he did, then it was well deserved and I stand corrected.

And I agree, Husker Nation, it should be one heckuva tussle. Looking forward to it!

I think it's going to come down to a defensive battle. Our defense hasn't given up more than 15 points except to Las Vegas. We held Niagara to only 7 points. I think this game could very well determine #1 in Brick's initial power rankings.

Well...so much for setting up to stop the run. Knew it was coming and still may as well have not been on the field. Nice rout, Vikings.

Wow, all the hostility because I own my own players....in the Forums and in my PM box(Subject: "Congrats" but the Message is: "You own all your players. How lame is that?"). You would think that teams would realize that a single owner team is at a DISadvantage since there's only one person to do all the scouting, game planning, tactics setting and to generate ideas on how to attack the opposing squad. The advantage is none of the drama that comes from whining about playing time and trade demands etc. that I just don't want to have to deal with. So I don't.

But that's for another thread.

Anyway, it was a very tough defensive struggle....neither team could manage a TD. It was a terrific game, Lincoln, and certainly sets up quite a rematch if we should meet again.....

I'm thinking Conference finals sounds like a good time for a rematch. After Lincoln has boosted all their players...

Yah, I'm kinda surprised that you didn't boost already.....I can see the logic of waiting in that your guys will get more XP, but if we end up in a tiebreaker for home field, then this loss would hurt your case and may cost you a home playoff game and $$$. (I was expecting that you guys were going to boost at the last minute to keep me guessing about who was boosting and who wasn't)

But it's not a slam dunk decision either way. Only time will tell if it was the right choice.

But it was a great game and it should be even better if we do it again!
