You mean in real football or GLB? There are a number of low-profile positions; FB, Offensive line, DT's for the most part. Trouble is, you can't win without a good offensive or defensive line, it is possible to win without a good FB.

In real football the fullback has almost become worthless.

i agree with your premise that they are under-respected.

On the other hand, i have a FB who is very useful to my team. And on some other teams i play with, the FB is important too. They are valuable and contribute a lot to the team, they are however, under-respected.

you really don't appreciate a good FB untill you don't have one... just look at Greg Jones of the Jaguars he's one of the top blocking FB's in the league and is a probowl alternate pretty much every year! also Tony Richardson... FB is fun to play and LB's make good conversion's and even Safeties... if you like to play those 2 positions but feel a little undersized then you could probably play FB since the best at the position aren't the big guys it's just the quick ones with pound for pound muscle!

one of the most under appreciated positions in Football and especially with the popularity of the slot receiver and pass happy league that is now the NFL cuts into the Fullbacks time... it's a shame too.

Football is cyclical. As defenses get smaller and quicker to counter pass-happy offenses, the physical offenses with pounding running games will be able to take advantage of that.

fb's are becomings TE's now a days as either they use a 2-te set or they drop the te to the fb position or does the T position
