And yet again...more reasons why NCAA shouldn't use RPI for anything

I realize we haven't had a real tough schedule as of yet but still playing San Jose isn't easy they are a good team. But our test comes in the next few weeks where we have a pretty decent load of teams to play. RPI don't worry me I just want wins I could care less what our RPI is as long as we're close at the end.

What's RPI and how does it have the Bulldogs in 2nd?

From the previous thread:

This is the RPI rating as used by many college sports. It's going to have exactly the same issues in GLB that it has in the NCAA (e.g. weighting strength of schedule very highly), but I figured it'd be fun to see.

RPI description here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratings_Percentage_Index

Basically, .25*WinPercent+.5*OpponentWinPct+.25*OpponentsOpponentsWinPercent

Remove yourself from the latter.

RPI just isn't very good at ranking who's best; it's really very heavily weighted toward who played the hardest teams. I wouldn't look at these rankings as trying to determine which team is the best. It's more a list that you can look at given someone's record and see if they might be better or worse than the record indicates (e.g. a 1-3 team that's high up on the list could turn out to be a much tougher team than the record says).

Once again, these are not ratings of which team is best. They are RPI strength ratings. See previous post, esp. "I wouldn't look at these rankings as trying to determine which team is the best. It's more a list that you can look at given someone's record and see if they might be better or worse than the record indicates (e.g. a 1-3 team that's high up on the list could turn out to be a much tougher team than the record says)."

They're usually used by when other measures (overall record, recent performance, etc) are close to help sort out who's played a more competitive schedule.

Wow you guys have a terrible understanding of the RPI. It isn't a very accurate rating early season, in anything. Even by seasons end, its more of a "who played the toughest schedule and didn't totally crack" rating, but since schedules are so similar between everyone here, it should come out to be a decent rating system by the end of the season.

Again, THESE AREN'T POWER RANKINGS, is essentially the SOS right now. That's why some of the "ekite" teams are so low.

It's a knee-jerk response to seeing any ranking system that doesn't agree with their mindset.

Why are the undefeated Mustangs below the Warriors? Because their opponents have been consistently weaker THUS FAR. When the Mustangs play a team at or over .500, their RPI ranking will increase.

Anyway, I thought I'd do the same as last time and tag mine in this thread too (Call it "RPI Lite"):

still that forumla is dumb as hell if you can rank a team below the 4 teams they beat

obviously our schedule isnt too easy if we played 5 teams ranked ahead of us and only lost 1

You're falling in to the trap.
Neither of these are power rankings.
They are more a measure of who has had a tougher schedule, and how they've held up to it.
