Lv 32 OT, of corse what I really want is a 5% HB but should I roll with this for now until I find it or is it a waste of 8 BTs?

Save your BTs unless you have to increase your chances of winning in lolminors by .0001%.

It depends on how many pieces of AEQ you want to get at the end of your build and how many BTs you will have.
You should go with 2 pieces of HBC% anyway. So you are only losing 1 strength and 1.5% HBC if that ends up being your second piece of HBC (the lower of 2 is automatically the one that gets the penalty). It cost 100 BT to create a +3/+5% piece so that is 92 BT saved from creating a perfect piece. You can keep rolling for a perfect piece, but you would still have to end up rolling 2, and you have no idea how many BTs you will spend trying to roll those, plus you will have to pay more BT to purchase it.

How muh is the diminished return for 2 HBC% pieces?
Also, if I buy a piece that is not perfect (say +2 STR and +3% HBC), can I upgrade that piece later to "perfect"?

You can't upgrade it later. You would have to buy a new piece to replace it.
When you have 2 pieces of AEQ modifying the same % chance, the lower (or if both are the same 2nd) piece only gets 1/2 of the bonus.
So if you have 2 5% pieces upgraded 10x the first piece is 25% and the second is 12.5%. If you have 1 piece that is 5% and one that is 2% and both are upgraded 10x the first piece is 25% and the second piece is 11%.
The loss in % is from 12.5 to 11 for a 2% or 11.5 for a 3%.
IMO - as long as 1 piece is 5%, the other piece can be a 2% or 3%

I usually create the 2% hold block items because they are cheaper. In the end when I double up on them it doesn't seem to matter much and I make sure I have enough BT to get 3 or more AEQ items and still train the way I want.

OK thanks for the help. I just bought my first piece, and I only got 17% bonus. I don't know what you mean by 10x, and I don't know how you get 25%. I spent 244 BT and it appeared that I couldn't get any more. Did I just screw up?
I got a total of +9 STR and 5% hold block (which only turned into +!7%). How do you get +25% and 10x?

Because by the end of a player's career he should be level 72 or higher. That is 10 equipment upgrades.
I think I misunderstood what you meant by upgrade. You can upgrade your equipment as for as level upgrades. (for instance when you hit level 48, 56, 64) you can pay 24 BT to get another +1 strength, +2% HBC.
What you can't do is pay BT to upgrade from a +2% base to a +5% base or pay to go up from a +2 base to a +3 base.
So if your player is level 45 and gets the following 2 pieces of AEQ
+3 strength, +5% HBC
+2 strength, +2% HBC
At level 72, those pieces can look like
+13 strength, +25% HBC
+12 strength, +22% HBC
You can not make the second piece a +13 strength, +25% HBC
So your max potential from those 2 pieces would be +25 strength, +36% HBC rather than +26 strength, +37.5% HBC.

Id buy it if it was my first roll or two. Upgrade it until it was worth 100ish BT then buy a +3/+5% piece.

Thanks for the great advise guys, now it seems worth it if I roll with 2 HB%. I won't lose that much from going with that and I'll save lots of BTs too.
