I think this season is about the most perfect PW sim since Season 9 when I began. I've seen the overpowered run and the overpowered pass. But keep in mind that I also enjoy this game b/c it's PeeWee ball, not just for the equal footing at the beginning of each season.
I like this sim b/c if you have a wide open receiver deep he will catch it the majority of the time (but there are still drops...as their should be, this is PW). I also like that the shorter passes are now a lot easier to complete than the long ones...that's just more realistic.
In contrast, I like that a well covered receiver will not catch the ball the majority of the time (but sometimes they will make a great catch, that's realistic). I couldn't stand the sim the past few seasons where a receiver had 3 defenders blanketed around him and he'd still catch the ball the majority of the time. That was just stupid, IMO. Now a good CB can actually hold his own in 1 on 1 coverage.
I like that offenses are well-balanced. You can have a team that runs inside, runs outside, or passes the ball and you have a reasonable chance for success. I also like that just doing one of those and forgetting about the other two will not have much success. And the best teams will be those that can do all three, or maybe just two...but really well.
It's been more subtle, but I think the missed tackles are at a good spot right now, too. You will have trouble against a powerback, but not too much trouble. You will usually tackle a speed guy, but not always.
I like how RB's are now better at finding an open hole. They don't just run it into the spot where the play is designed to run anymore. If the hole is inside or outside, the runner will make the cut and adjust (pending agility/vision of course).
The kickoff's and punt returns are at a better place now, too. There aren't a million KO returns anymore, but you will see a few here and there.
I like that some formerly obsolete plays are relevant again. I remember the days when you would immediately take about 30% of the plays out of your playbook b/c they would only lose yards. Now you can utilize almost anything if the defense is soft in that area. This includes the weakside off tackle runs, some of the weak pitches, screen plays, draw plays, and more.
I like that zones are relevant again. There used to be a time that you would only use a zone on defense if you were an idiot. Now a good DC can mix in some strategic zones with good success. The defenders will actually cover guys in that zone and not just stand there frozen.
I like how old and new coaches seem to converge at this sim. Some of the old school tricks are now working again, and some of the newer tricks of the last few seasons are no longer overpowered. The best coaches are now mixing in the old with the new and finding a very fun middle ground.
Anyway, I have normally been a pretty strong critic of the sim in this game. So I thought I would share some of the things that I am liking about the current sim.
One of the few negatives I see in this sim, though, is covering the short RB passes. The sim is messed up again, and not allowing defenders to cover receivers behind the LOS. That will likely be fixed soon. Also, the LB's are a little hesitant to get out and cover the flats very well, but I think that will get fixed with stronger builds. Plus DC's are already adapting to shut that down.
