This is the RPI rating as used by many college sports. It's going to have exactly the same issues in GLB that it has in the NCAA (e.g. weighting strength of schedule very highly), but I figured it'd be fun to see.

West:
1 0.5990 Minnesota Marauders
2 0.5938 Golden State Athletics
3 0.5625 San Antonio Saints
4 0.5573 Washington Extreme
5 0.5469 Denver Globetrotters
6 0.5312 Tecmo SuperBowlers
7 0.5312 Dayton Brute Squad
8 0.5052 Columbus Bucks
9 0.5000 Bourbon Street Bullies
10 0.4740 Kailua Daggers
11 0.4740 Detroit Dump Trucks
12 0.4427 San Jose Spartans
13 0.4375 Oakland Intimidators
14 0.4375 Dallas Destroyers
15 0.4115 Saginaw Supernovas
16 0.3958 Flathead Just Go Krazy

East:
1 0.5625 Kalamazoo Coyotes
2 0.5417 Kansas Warriors
3 0.5365 Philadelphia Pushovers
4 0.5312 Detroit Nasty
5 0.5208 D.C. Warpath
6 0.5156 Miami Bulldogs
7 0.5052 Washington Bullets
8 0.5052 Beantown Gearheads
9 0.5000 Mozilla Firefox
10 0.5000 Dark Lotus Juggernauts
11 0.4948 Kentucky Wildcats
12 0.4896 Chicago Mustangs
13 0.4792 Detroit Demon Lions
14 0.4740 Sacramento SaberCats
15 0.4271 Pensacola Blazers
16 0.4167 Savannah Skyhawks

RPI here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ratings_Percentage_Index

Basically, .25*WinPercent+.5*OpponentWinPct+.25*OpponentsOpponentsWinPercent

Remove yourself from the latter.

There's an inherent problem when a 1-3 team is #1 in the West, and a couple of 4-0 teams are below 0-4 teams.

nice job - you should get together with madetoorder to combine and make a weekly power rankings/RPI rating post. Or, for the least, continue to do these separately. I've always enjoyed looking at RPI, except i do agree that strength of schedule should be ever so slightly reduced. At least in NCAA, i feel it should only consider teams that have a shot at the tourney (i speak for bball here), and yes i know that would be SOOOO HARD to do, but it would make the rating more valid in the selection process - If you play a Sun Belt team that went 23-10, and someone else played Arizona, is that really fair for the ratings?

Yeah, it's way SOS-centric.

Well its right in line with the RPI in college basketball at least.

Thats why i have been against the RPI being used in the selection comittee as well.

lol, something is fishy... there is no way Min would be the top in a college football RPI, or the Mustangs in the bottom half.

After just 4 weeks they might be by RPI, but college football uses a different system (BCS).

The Marauders have a 1-3 record, but their opponents have had a 12-0 record against teams other than the themselves. That's the toughest in USA Pro along with the Warriors, followed by the Extreme, Globetrotters, Bullets & Firefox.

They deserve to be higher than most rank them.

The 'cupcakiest' (???) schedules belong to DLJ, Mustangs, Skyhawks, and DDL in the East, and less so to the SuperBowlers, Dump Trucks, Brute Squad, Spartans and Supernova in the West.

I did a much simpler version. Win/Tie % x Relative SOS (where I don't go into the opponents of opponents), and it came out as follows:

EASTERN (win % x Relative S.o.S.)
=======
0.583333 Kalamazoo Coyotes (4-0-0)
0.437500 Detroit Nasty (3-1-0)
0.333333 Miami Bulldogs (2-2-0)
0.250000 Philadelphia Pushovers (4-0-0)
0.250000 DC Warpath (2-2-0)
0.208333 Washington Bullets (1-3-0)
0.166667 Dark Lotus Juggernauts (4-0-0)
0.166667 Chicago Mustangs (4-0-0)
0.166667 Kentucky Wildcats (2-2-0)
0.145833 Sacramento SaberCats (1-3-0)
0.083333 Detroit Demon Lions (4-0-0)
0.041667 Savannah Skyhawks (1-3-0)
0.000000 Kansas Warriors (0-4-0)
0.000000 Pensacola Blazers (0-4-0)
0.000000 Mozilla Firefox (0-4-0)
0.000000 Beantown Gearheads (0-4-0)

WESTERN (win % x Relative S.o.S.)
=======
0.500000 Golden State Athletics (4-0-0)
0.437500 Bourbon Street Bullies (3-1-0)
0.333333 San Antonio Saints (4-0-0)
0.250000 Tecmo SuperBowlers (4-0-0)
0.250000 Minnesota Marauders (1-3-0)
0.229167 Washington Extreme (1-3-0)
0.208333 Denver Globetrotters (1-3-0)
0.187500 Detroit Dump Trucks (3-1-0)
0.187500 Dayton Brute Squad (3-1-0)
0.187500 Columbus Bucks (1-3-0)
0.166667 Oakland Intimidators (2-2-0)
0.145833 Kailua Daggers (1-3-0)
0.125000 San Jose Spartans (2-2-0)
0.125000 Saginaw Supernovas (2-2-0)
0.000000 Flathead Just Go Krazy (0-4-0)
0.000000 Dallas Destroyers (0-4-0)

Both this and the RPI system would gravitate towards the actual WLT records towards the end of the season as the schedules will all have evened out by week 15.

Week 16 (the inter-conference game) would throw the proverbial spanner (wrench) in the works as the conferences may be of different strengths.

Because your opponents thus far have had a combined scheduled of 2-10 (excluding the games you played).

However, I agree that it would be hard to see that three 0-4 teams could be above a 4-0 team in any circumstances. You can only play/beat whoever is put in front of you.

Yeah, but if a team beats a team straight up, just because that team has a tougher schedule doesnt nullify the loss. If a team is ranked below a team that it recently beat, then something is wrong with the system. If a 3-1 team is ranked above a 4-0 team and the two havent played each other, thats makes perfect sense given the strength of schedule rule.

One problem this early in the year is that SOS can be so varied, from 0 to 1. By mid-season it'll more likely range from .4 to .6 or so, and things will shake out a bit more as you'd expect.

The other problem is that RPI just isn't very good at ranking who's best; it's really very heavily weighted toward who played the hardest teams. I wouldn't look at these rankings as trying to determine which team is the best. It's more a list that you can look at given someone's record and see if they might be better or worse than the record indicates (e.g. a 1-3 team that's high up on the list could turn out to be a much tougher team than the record says).
