Anyone got any experience of the OOP and success of playing DE's as backup OLBs? My DE recruiting went too well and my LB recruiting not well enough.

it's about a 5% penalty to base attributes. It's one of the more viable plays.
One thing to consider is playing strength DE at ROLB, put him on the LOS and then blitz a speed DE from outside him.

Is it just too hard to find an OLB that is strong enough to fill that role (the ROLB slot into which you're sticking the DE)?

the point of the play that rage stated was to basically get a 3rd DE on the LOS, so that the speed DE on the outside can run right by as the power DE/ROLB is being blocked by the dot that would otherwise be blocking the speed DE.

I haven't seen any 95+ strength LBs on the market. I'm building some now, but unfortunately, I'll probably have to adjust the build or retire them when the DPC restrictions are implemented.
edit: I was also making the suggestion based on his current predicament where he an abundance of DEs and not enough LBs. Conventional wisdom would be to play the strength guy at DE and the speed guy at OLB. I'm suggesting that the opposite may be better so your speed guy doesn't take the penalty to his attributes.

This just telegraphs to an OC to run some weakside screens/dump passes if you run a DE in the ROLB spot. It is basically saying hey we are going to blitz you but have a guy who can't cover...... might work if you hide it in a ROLB1 slot and sub him in but if the OC watches the PBP from prev games like all good OCs do .....

I've come to the conclusion that blitzer LBs are just weak stand up DEs so I think the OOP penalty makes this move a worthy option in your situation.

you can cover the weak side pass to HB/FB with FS and/or MLB. It's not like you need the ROLB to cover anyone.
