Lets start off by saying that unless you have a punter by position individually devoted to punt distance you are looking at maybe being able to punt the ball 30 yards down field.

30 Yards, with around 5% of all punts being returned for touchdowns even in the Gold League, and the rest of the punts averaging about 10 yards of return...

You are looking at moving the ball a maximum expectation of 20 yards to punt the ball, with a 0% chance of getting the first down and a 5% chance of giving up a touchdown?

Not too promising...

Now on 4th and any distance you are looking at least a slight percent chance as long as you target all deep routes with receivers over 30 catching you are actually going to convert 4th downs at least 20-25% of the time.

does anyone punt anymore?

I feel like adding any kind of buff to the punting/kicking ability at the peewee level would really lead to a bit more NFL-style parity and that is something that they've done before with the passing buff so I don't see why not to boost the punting/kicking to promote the use of these plays strategically rather than teams avoiding these teams at all cost.

Only punt on my side of the field with more than 5 to go. Using a kicker as a punter as well to save a spot for a STOP.

Very rarely.

For those who say all you need is a kicker, wouldn't having a Punter Kicking be better? A kicker can't punt for shit but a Punter can angle and pin a offense deep sometimes, not all the time. I wonder if a Punter can kick field goals.

Also I wonder if a Punter kicks off if there is less chance of a return due to the short kick. Either way the opposing team will star around the 50.

Good point.

Although I think a kick off goes to the 20 any ways. This is the BUFF Tourney (Out of position players) Here is a Defensive Tackle Kicking Off. http://goallineblitz.com/game/replay.pl?game_id=1419332&pbp_id=7142369

so you might be on to something.

Yeah, but that DT probably has a ton of strength, a lot more than a punter or kicker would have.

Hmmm....i thought of using a DT as a K/P at the beginning of the season...because there are no OOPP on ST

someone made a thread exactly like this many seasons ago.. think it was 1k. i remember it being much worse back in the day like 12-13 yards per punt at the beginning of the season was average

Of that 5% of PRTDs, check how many were given up by "real" teams. Even though it may not seem like much, i'd say that number is cut in half to 2.5 or 3%

Punting is fine and always has been. One element of PW is always the choice of having both a K/P, going 2 ways with just a kicker, or not punting at all. There is always a chance at the first down and the good teams will find a way to get first downs on 3rd and 4th. An Elite Gold team will have 4th and 2-3 a good amount of the time, setting up at least a 50% chance of getting the first.

i've won enough close games due to field position advantage that punting gives me.

I'm in the same boat. Late in the season if you have a good punter it can be really key...especially if your guy is good enough to nail some coffin corners.

Doesn't a team take a morale hit if they do not convert on 4th down as well?

This and watching some games last season where we didnt punt, our defense started out with lower moral.

AFAIK anyone can kickoff to the 20. Bort had changed it so that kickoffs were more realistic in relation to build maturity about 2 seasons ago. He then had to make it so that FW and BW players could return the KO, because the kicking team reached the ball before the returner. He then had to return to the old system and make a minimum distance for KO's (around the 20 yard line) because teams were forcing too many fumbles on kick returns.

Long story short: as D~Town says, anyone can KO to the 20. Build doesn't matter.

In that case why not make it an STOP player kicking or a defensive player.

Speed, Tackling, Agility, Vision etc would be far better than a K/P
