1.Oklahoma City Spartans 5-0-0
Last week: 1 High: 1 Low:1
Another week, another Spartan win. The difference is that they actually had to work for it a bit. Held to a season low 26 points by a gritty Little Haiti defence. Ok, admittedly “held to 26” is a little like the town drunk saying he ONLY had 15 beer. You can bet every coach in the league will be looking at this game and how the Voodoo played D.
2. Los Angeles Reign 5-0-0
Last week: 2 High:2 Low:6
Absolutely thrashed Minnesota is one of the worst beatings of the year. Offense lit it up in the air and on the ground. Another typical Reign defensive performance held Minnesota to -10 yards… yes, that’s a minus.
3. Fresno Fire 5-0-0
Last week: 3 High:3 Low:7
The latest team to beat the hell out of the OKC Outlaws. If they weren’t undefeated, they’d probably drop a slot for only winning by 17.
4. Little Haiti Voodoo 3-2-0
Last week: 4 High:4 Low:10
How do you lose a game but stay in the same spot? You play the Spartans. Actually making the Spartans work for a W for a change and questionable opponent for Reno keeps the Voodoo where they are. They’ll need to return to their winning ways against South Otto next week to stay in the upper echelon though.
5. Reno Marauders 3-2-0
Last week: 5 High: 2 Low:5
A balanced rushing attack (and I do mean balanced…4 guys with all roughly the same rushing attempts and yards) and a good passing attack leads Reno by Vallonia. Giving up 275 in the air to the BeaverHunters should be a concern for Reno’s coaching staff though.
6. Florida Bulls 3-2-0
Last week: 9 High: 5 Low:9
Back to their winning ways with a good victory over South Otto. Florida QB Quentin Lamond found his starting wideouts all day, with 80 per cent of his completions going to the starting duo. Florida plays everyone tough and next week should have a barn-burner with another exciting offense in the OTR Red Dots.
7. San Jose Chupacabra 3-2-0
Last week: 8 High: 7 Low:13
The Chupacabra put up their third W in a row with a convincing win over the Bay Area Bastards, 30-6. The overachieving defense, under the tutelage of coach Jake Rawburst, continues to surprise opponents.
8. South Otto Fragile Porcelain Mice 3-2-0
Last week: 6 High: 6 Low:9
Hung tough against a solid Florida Bulls team. Next two weeks are crucial with tough matchups against Little Haiti and OTR. Earning at least a split gives the Mice a good shot at the playoffs.
9. Over The Rhine Red Dots 3-2-0
Last week:7 High: 3 Low:9
How does a team that wins drop two spots? That’s an indication of how close the 6 through 9 spots are. OTR switched it up this week and dominated on the ground, with Cooter Splitter racking up 150 yards and an amazing 4 touchdowns. OTR needs to beat Florida next week to prove they can win against the league’s top end teams. Wins over Minden, Vallonia and Boston doesn’t provide much bragging rights.
10. Colorado Springs Flyers 2-3-0
Last week: 11 High: 3 Low:11
Colorado finally returns to the win column against Boston. The pieces seem to be there for the Flyers but they can’t seem to get over the hump. Their inconsistent offensive line will be tested next week against the vicious defense of San Jose.
11 . Bay Area Bastards 2-3-0
Last week: 10 High: 10 Low:12
Taken down handily by San Jose but showed a few bright spots. Still need some fine tuning but I think they can win some more games this season. Next week likely won’t be it however as they travel to Los Angeles to take on the Reign.
12. Vallonia BeaverHunters 1-4-0
Last week: 12 High: 12 Low:16
Played tough and put up some yards against a top 5 Reno team. They’ll need a helluva comeback to resurrect their season but they look to be through the worst of their performances.
13. Minden Musketeers 0-5-0
Last week: 15 High: 13 Low:15
Managed to move the ball a bit against OTR. Congrats go to Chris Lightning who managed to only throw 3 INTs this week….eeesh.
14. Boston Boogie Monsters 1-4-0
Last week: 14 High: 12 Low:16
Losing to Colorado Springs shot a rare chance for a Monster win. Weakness at key positions will continue to hamper this team until its players can get a little experience.
15. Minnesota Americans 1-4-0
Last week: 13 High: 10 Low:15
For the second week in a row, Minnesota’s kicker sits on the sideline and watches the game. A little research shows some very very odd front office moves. Who pays 125K to a kicker?
16. Oklahoma City Outlaws 0-5-0
Last week:16 High:8 Low:16
The Outlaws continue their losing ways. They have some solid players on the team but can’t seem to get a W…or even very close to one for that matter. Rumors say that the team’s coordinators are game planning by magic 8-ball. I doubt this as sometimes even the magic 8-ball gets it right.
