Alright, I had some issues with the new additions to the ranking formula that took me a while to fix tonight.

I've implemented a component that only allows the entire season stats to count for 25% of the ranking, and the most recent 5 games count for the rest. Since we haven't played 5 games yet, this obviously isn't counting the last five games yet, but it will later in the season. This should help reduce the issue last season where teams started out slow, but came on strong at the end being under-ranked, and the teams who put up big numbers at the beginning being over ranked at the end.

Total offense = 0.25 * Season Offense + 0.75 * Recent offense.

The recent offense is determine be computing the score for a teams offensive performance, then weighted by their opponents recent defensive score.

So performing well (or even just halfway decent) against a good opponent scores you much higher than beating the tar, stuffing, feathers and snot out of an entirely overmatched opponent.

Defense works the same way.

ST is also = 0.25 * Season + 0.75 * Recent, but there is no opponent factor, so it's a little more straightforward.

I'm expecting this system to work itself out a little more as the season goes on, for a couple of reasons. First, we'll play more games, so the effect of any statistical blowouts will continue to decrease in the season long stats (which are diminished in their overall value anyway). Secondly, I haven't really been able to test this new system until now, so If I have to tweak it a bit, I can if it still seems pretty wonky after week 8 or so.

10. Rhode Island Revolutionaries - i guess this is the team that was bought late last season . i guess their off to a good start, but who knows what will happen, the guy who owns it seems like a complete douchebag.

11. Fort Lauderdale Merkins - i mean were getting in the bottom of the pit now

13. Titan Nation - more medicore teams who would be in the playoffs if it started today. West is becoming a shithole for untalented teams.

14. SOUTH GEORGIA GROWL - they won more games this year so far than all of next year. but who cares, they had to change thier name so people would forget about them.

15. Cincinnati Norris Ninjas - a threat in the playoffs and in the regular season. i got respect for them.

We went thru this all last season too. I go out of my way to make sure the rankings are not biased. This is just how the numbers work out.

And I doubt you're going to get a perspective any less biased than mine around here, so good luck with that....

You can say you don't agree with my rankings, or that you just flat out don't like them (in which case you don't have to read them). But they are not biased for or against anyone. If they were, do you honestly think I'd have the Capitals as high as they are?

yours aren't too bad. but you cant use your ranking system and get an accurate ranking after just four games. Just surprising to be lower than 2 teams we beat and a team that is 1-3. No worries though. There is no exact science here.

That's going to be true of any stat based ranking....this early in the season, there are a lot of factors that don't even out yet. But later on in the season thing will even out a bit.

stickmans rating are a hell of alot better then what the princess tried to do good job stickman keep up the good work.

I like the new rankings. Even though we (Fremont) are number 3, we beat the #1 offense and #2 defense (Titan Nation) by 30 points (33-3). That works for me.
