Yeah I know, I know, this season isn't over yet, but when you get smashed out of the playoffs things get boring, so here is my early take on S18. I am probably way off but who cares, its fun to speculate.
This is just a look on who I believe will contend next season. Sorry about the rest of the league, but maybe you can make me regret leaving you out next season...
Contenders Labeled in "Level of Contention"
- If Jebs stays they are instant favorites. Great young roster, with some slightly older players in the right spots to take them to the next level. Level of Contention:1
- Us Rads will contend and blow it in the playoffs, then ragequit and gut. Level of Contention: 1
- If St. Johns stays they are also obv contenders, but it looks like a lot of unsigned guys (which means nothing since my whole roster is returning and we haven't signed). If they get the roster in order similar to what we saw this season, watch out. With the same roster, Level of Contention: 1
- I really like Montreal if the roster stays the same. Some Plateau players, which means some stagnation, but young in places and very talented. Level of Contention: 1
- Queensland looks like they will come back with a very familiar roster, very good team. My only concern is they are pretty much a plateau team, which means they won't see much individual change. But with VA switches and some adjustments, the team could get better. Level of Contention: 2
- North Bay has a very solid team and will get better, but they fall into the "stagnant zone" in areas with over 20 of the players in plateau. They will be tough, but not sure I see them as someone who can take the conference. Level of Contention: 2.5
- Thunder Bay I am assuming is got a change going on with all the open builds and all the contracts up. So very hard to read. Level of Contention (for now): 3
**Sleeper Pick***
Nebraska, they could make a jump like we did from S16-S17 and find themselves pushing for a home playoff game. I believe their time will come in S19, but they will make some noise next season. Level of Contention 3
- Between CBID and Moose, obv either one will be tough, but it really depends on what they do with their rosters. If they recruit and get younger, they make take a step back to eventually take 2 steps forward, but recruiting is tough with a lot of great teams going after players. So I preemptively give them both Level 1 Contention status.
