No single "Game of the Week" this week, rather three important games. Sons of Doug Flutie, Niagara, and the Hudson Bay Horrors are all anticipated to finish at 9-7. This will set up a three-way tie as none of the three beat the other two, they're all split at 1-1 against them. The next tiebreaker? Points allowed. Just as they're currently 7th - 9th in the standings, they're also 7th - 9th in points allowed. The Sons of Doug Flutie in seventh with 563 followed by Hudson Bay in eighth with 602 and the Maulers in ninth with 609. Niagara catches a break here with the Paradise Cheeseburgers having scored just 24 points all season. It's a safe estimate that they'll end this game as they started it...with 609 points allowed. Likewise, BSoDF isn't likely to yield greater than 46 points to a Leaders Gaulois team that's averaging only 23.3 points per game this season. In my opinion, things aren't looking good for the Horrors...Danzig has had a rough welcome to Canada Pro this season, but their offense is still averaging better than 35 points per contest. They have a seven-point lead over Niagara going into the game, but can Hudson Bay hold the Raytheon to less than a touchdown. Two of the three will make the playoffs, albeit for only one game, but for the third...their season ends tomorrow.

It's an important week for both the Windsor Flying Walruses and Houston Vikings. Houston has to beat St. John's for their playoffs hopes to remain intact. Windsor should easily take care of the Rams and hope against a Vikings upset of the Salty Dogs and they're in. The Oblong Ball Club gets the "Game of the Week" however because they're looking to grab the #2 seed with an upset of the reeling Exiles. Three games ago Queensland torched St. John's and looked for all the world to be the #1 seed...easily. Consecutive losses to North Bay and Providence could have them dropping all the way down to #5 if Jebediah's as their way. Losses to the Drift and Radicals don't help the Exiles with the tiebreaker among teams that could have four losses.

Thanks for the write-up and in-depth look at our chances at the number 8 seed. Will be very interesting to see how it works itself out. And yeah, most likely even if we make the playoffs we will be staring down the guns of the All-Stars, don't really like our chances there

Again, the projector got 'em all right. As expected BSoDF, Niagara, and Hudson Bay all got wins in their final game to set up a three-way tie. The Sons surrendered just thirteen points to the Gaulois and ended the season with 576 points allowed, good for seventh place and a first-round playoff game against the Village Dogs. Hudson Bay couldn't shut down a Danzig Raytheon team that built momentum as the season went on and gave up 40 points to their offense. They had a slim seven-point advantage over Niagara, but ended the season with 642 points allowed after Week 16. The projector and I both figured the Maulers would shut out the Cheeseburgers...but that didn't quite happen. However, the touchdown they yielded ended their season with 616 points allowed...good for eighth and a first-round playoff game against the Bloodweiser Bugle All Stars. Some reward for victory, huh?

Six-for-eight. My gut says to ask, "What happened to Queensland?" Then I think...maybe they got it right. The bottom half of the bracket (Seeds 2, 3, 6, 7) includes the Jebediah's Oblong Ball Club, Montreal Rulers, Providence Radicals, and North Bay Drift. Queensland went 1-3 against them. The top half of the bracket (Seeds 1, 4, 5, 8) includes the St. John's Salty Dogs, Queensland Exiles, Thunder Bay Wolverines, and Windsor Flying Walruses. The Exiles went 3-0 against this group. For all the talk of "lolWest" there's a clear favorite (BBAS) in the East to win it all...and two teams (VD, HCH) that might put up more than a pillow fight for the Silver Trophy. In the West, however, there is such parity that the sixth & seventh seeds could walk away with the trophy and I wouldn't be surprised. FWIW, GG Jebs. Nice way to finish the season.

Edit: Thanks, jdbolick. I had incorrectly put seven-for-eight...neglecting to give the nod to Providence who upset the Drift. Had North Bay won they'd have been fourth and dropped Queensland to fifth and Thunder Bay to sixth. Definitely changed the landscape of CPL West's playoffs.
