The 'Sunset' Tournament was supposed to be this season since last season was my last, however I had to work out some details with support before getting their go ahead to proceed. So now it will be a Season 18 event so it will give teams a heads up to see if they will be interested.
Structure
16 or 32 teams, depending on how much interest there is, using a single match bracket style with two 'conferences' of play. That means for any team to win the tournament, they will have to win 5 games.
Restrictions
This will be a non-boosting, non-CE tournament, however I don't want to penalise boosters so this tournament will be structured to be completed quickly. By the time players reach lvl 5, a commong boosting lvl, the Sunset championship game will have already been played -- unless both teams are boosters and both want to play for the title at lvl 8.
Prizes
Sunset winner receives a Trophy, and 2000 flex.
Sunset runner up receives a Trophy, and 1000 flex.
Sunset Final Four (not including teams in championship game) receive a Trophy, and 500 flex each.
Sunset X-Factor, an honourable mention team that will be selected, receives a Trophy and 250 flex.
Other key notes
Official tournament thread will be posted in the offseason so that teams may sign up; first come, first serve however in the interests of full disclosure, I will be reserving a couple spots for teams that I have been a part of.
Once the PW schedules come out, and all teams are signed up, I will make a schedule for all games stating the date games are to be played, and the teams can determine the time. Every attempt will be made to schedule games on off days to allow teams to prepare if they wish, but some conflicts are bound to arise.
Missed games can only be rescheduled if neither team has levelled up and this is because it's a tight schedule. If both teams have levelled, I will make a decision based on upcoming games on whether it will be rescheduled or forfieted.
Final words
I realise that such a tournament won't result in spectacular play since the games will be held when players are at lvl 1 - 5, but it allows me to give back to some of the people and teams that I have had the pleasure of getting to know the past few years.
It's not a perfect tournament by any stretch, but hopefully it will be well received and if teams stay on top of it, I think it will go smoothly and quickly.
Feel free to post up any comments or suggestions. The above is my concept, hence the word 'preliminary' in the thread title. I am open to making some changes, especially if it makes the tournament more fair as I'd like to have this a wide open event for PW.
Thanks!
