How cool would it be if each league had the ability to create an award prize and have a real voting system to determine the award.

For example, the BBB12 MVP award. Each team owner could choose to make anyone their team eligible for the prize by putting $5000 into the award prize pool. That gets you into the voting and being considered for the vote. Then, whoever wins the award gets the total prize pool.

It would definitely add another dimension to the game and might be a way for players to get the cash for the status items (if they ever come in). Each league can create any number of awards they want as long as a team decides to put up the award cash. You could even select the scope of the award, specific team or league wide. Most teams already vote for their player of the week anyway. I'm sure this is on the suggestion thread but felt it would be nice to post my idea here.

Im not sure you'd get much money into the award pool, maybe 5000 isnt a lot for an owner to toss in, but will owners do it to show support for their favorite player even if he doesnt stand a chance of winning?

I like the idea. I was going to say GLB should match like 25% of the prize pool, but then people would abuse it by making tons of stupid awards and just vote for their player and get free money. I still like the idea.

Only thing I would say could be a downfall. If owners do put money into the pool, they have something invested in trying to make sure their player would win. I'm not saying all owners would do this, but I think a lot would just vote for their guy.

Oh yeah, I totally agree. I figured that since people are already feeling slighted and arguing over imaginary trophies we might as well justify their whinging, lol. This way, at least they did lose something. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to code it so they can't vote for a player on their team. Then it would truly be like the Heisman where schools are pimping their candidates. Team press releases would definitely go up to highlight their players.

I don't think it's such a good idea. Maybe let the owner's vote, because then you got guys who will just vote for people on their team.

you could just set it up in the preseason and then have awards for the league leaders at seasons end. most of the time those are the one in consideration for mvp anyway. do a small award for each postion.

like qb with most yards or td/int ratio or qb rating or something, maybe a combination.
rb with most yards/tds.
wr most yards/tds/catches.
oline with most pancakes.
dline with most sacks/tfl
lb with most tackles
db with most int/pd/tackles
return man with most yards/tds
kicker most fg/fg%

thats about it i guess, maybe something for a punter, most pins inside the 20 or something.

this could be a standard amount given by glb, i.e. 10000 per winner, or a pool where the coaches could donate and this would get their players eligible.

Well, the idea is to just set up the award template and you fill in what it is. Then, you choose how much the entry cost (application fee) is and set the scope of the award. This would allow for a GLB wide award, league, and team awards. The possibilities are endless, but maybe it would get out of control with stupid owners making GLB wide awards that the entry is $1. This would also give Bort the ability to set up an official GLB Outstanding Player, Most Sought After FA, or whatever award. This kind of pay to enter award system might help in satisfying some of the gambling instincts people have. They'll be putting money up to get money. They could even make it so that if a player on your team wins the award the owner gets back his application fee. That way, the team awards are free.
